My 2011 MacBook Air has 8 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD. I can swap the battery, RAM, and SSD. Repairability FTW!!

AND I can still go online with it thanks to legacy browsers with current security certificates.

For many photo management systems, including Apple iCloud and Adobe Lightroom, you don't really need your whole catalog on the device. It'll keep proxies and then download the full resolution when needed, and keep it on device until space is needed for something else. I've got about 16,000 iPhone photos plus about 15,000 Lightroom photos (mostly RAW), and on my 64 GB iPhone X, it's fine. As long as you have a decent wifi/cel connection, they're all available even though most aren't on the device. That said, I'll be upgrading this fall and will probably want at least 256 GB and maybe 512 because who knows what the future holds.
Yeah, I use iCloud Photos so I really don’t need much space at all. I wouldn’t mind keeping my entire library on device, but it’s quickly breaking past 110GB so I probably wouldn’t be able to for the lifetime of an iPhone 15 w/ 256.

I think it depends sometimes on what youre using it for or the situation… If youre on holiday and recording a lot of video, but dont have the opportunity or ability to sync or upload it, it could prove very useful.
How many vacation destinations still don’t have WiFi in hotels…? Is that still a thing people encounter often?

If the Pro Max periscope is just 5x or 6x, pass.

Sticking with the Pro and probably black again because the other colors put me to sleep. 🥱

Here’s hoping there’s some kind of surprise tomorrow because USB-C really isn’t all thaaaat exciting..
The most surprising non rumored thing I’m expecting is a meaningless tweak like a brighter AoD. I probably will not be thrilled but at least I won’t be disappointed. 🙃

I’d love it if my 14 Pro AoD would just work consistently! Mine turns off at night time every night. for no reason. Bogus, man.

I prefer to pay monthly and get a new phone every year. Why would I want to use a 3 or 4 year old phone if I can afford it? Not everyone is in dire financial stress. A smart choice for you is not my choice for me.

I'm quite financially well off; I just think it's a waste of resources and silly to upgrade yearly..but you do you. I buy them full price and directly from Apple.

I actually get more enjoyment out of making tech last longer than just swapping for new. I'm not a gadget nerd.

As a byproduct of keeping devices longer… you really feel the new features when you do eventually upgrade.

Also. I have taken older devices back to Apple if the resale isn’t great. I’d rather a device was used longer, then responsibly dealt with at the end of its life… than ending up as landfill.

Other than performing a tear down, is there a software based way to determine the storage manufacturer? And what is the best storage brand that Apple uses for iPhones and iPads?

It’s disabled by dark ambient light and sleep focus. This might be why that’s happening.
It’s not that, I’ve been in a well lit room, reading with the phone beside me and I can see when it turns off. It’s totally random, nothing to do with the ambient light and it’s not the sleep focus, because I do use that, and so expect the AoD to be off in that instance. It’s just a buggy feature, ever since one of the updates last year it’s been this way.

The sad thing is they KNOW us nerds will pay for the 1TB of storage we'll never use if it means we get more RAM.

So I wouldn't be surprised if they did that. Most people, even power users, don't need more than 256GB of storage since iCloud functions as a backing store and the caching is really good.
I have only 30% left of my 1tb 14pm.
A lot of photos

The 256GB base model rumours never made sense.

In a tight fiscal environment where it’s tough for Apple to grow unit sales, the last thing you’d want to do is disincentivise people to be upsold more profitable upsells.

No no no! We‘re getting 2 TB. I heard nothing. 😵‍💫

Can't wait to dump my 12P for a 15PM. I don't see the 16 being as big of a jump so not waiting another year and see my 12P decrease further in value.
