Of course.

The fact they tried to pull the “extra size/room in the Max allows this“ BS.

So the excuse that there wasn’t room for it in the smaller one was BS I guess

Apparently you didn’t read the article but just the headline … the 16 Pro is supposed to be 6.3“ instead of 6.1“ specifically to fit the tetraprism camera.

Dude, it does NOT even zoom in or out. It's just a prime lens. Does it even mention the zoom range? It clearly not. It only says 120mm instead of 24-120mm.

Both tetraprism and periscope lens are only meant for making a telephoto lens, not a zoom lens.
as long as the photo doesnt lose the quality its optical and not full digital. Not to say that you are the only one on the world wide web that saying its 100% digital

Funny, the design of the actual 2024 iPhone doesn’t get frozen until around Dec/Jan timeframe, sure they are doing various engineering versions, but…

You clearly aren’t aware of the rumors that state that next year the 16 Pro is increasing to 6.3” and the 16 Pro Max is increasing to 6.9”.

When the 16 Pro increases to 6.3” what they’re doing is increasing the physical size of the device in length by about 1/4”. They’re keeping the width of the device about the same because they’re already maxed out on width for a human to hold one-handed (especially the Max).

What this results in next year is considerably more internal space inside the 16 Pro, wherein they’ll easily be able to incorporate the ‘tetra prism’ 5x module.

Now you know.

I wouldn't want it. Not if it means sacrificing the 77MM, which is a much more useful focal length for me. What they have done with the 15 Pro Max camera is completely bizarre to me. Also the main reason I am not upgrading.

I kinda like the 3x, especially for portraits.

This is why I might actually upgrade to the 15 Pro. It looks like this will be a) the last relatively compact Pro model and b) the last Pro model with a portrait camera.

"dude" as you are troling in arm section...you are starting here too? as long as the photo doesnt lose the quality its optical and not full digital
Since when prime lens with cropping or digital zoom became an optical zoom? The telephoto lens on iPhone 15 Pro Max has a fixed focal length. I don't care about the quality, the terminology of camera should not be messed up.

While a tetraprism lens with up to 5x optical zoom is currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max, the feature will expand to both the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max next year, according to supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
News Flash Common Sense: Features from iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max will expand to both the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus

Hey, look! I'm now a supply chain analyst.

The 5x is fixed focal length, not zoom at all, everything in between 1x and 5x therefor is digital, simple as that
good one...optical vs digital in 2023 means losing quality by zooming or not
it no longer matters how you obtain that anymore
Is like saying you can obtain 2 only just by adding 1 plus 1

Clearly, people know nothing about fixed or prime lens vs zoom lens.
To be fair, those who have actual photography background understand, but the smartphone industry (Apple and Samsung) don’t use the term zoom in the photography sense and therefor blur the landscape, I don’t like that. And MR dies the same, using Apple language…

Isn't the entire purpose of the new periscope lens to make it optical, regardless of distance?
