Part of my reasoning to jump on the 14 Pro and glad I went 14 pro. I figured the rumors were probably true long-term on the price increase, given the rumors of different metal, haptic buttons and further differentiation between Pro and non-Pro models.

Just as expected when I read about poor sales of the standard model. They wanted to further differentiate the standard from the Pro models, and there are basically four ways to do that:
- more features for the Pro model; unlikely, since they just don’t have more available
- less features for the standard model; unlikely to boost those models’ sales
- lower the standard models‘ prices; yeah, right
- raise the Pro models‘ prices

Which option would we expect Apple to choose?
I like Apple, but I believe they are not far from the point where customers won’t accept the prices anymore, and to be honest, I hope they learn the hard way.

I think the 'non pro' standard versions do actually need to offer an improved feature set.

That iPhone Plus not having a high refresh rate display at nearly $1000 is a very hard sell.

I bought a 13 Pro as a longer term investment this time so I'll hold judgement on my next purchase. I probably have 4 years to run on this device before I'll can it.

But at the price increments I'm seeing I probably can't justify spending on it. If you buy a Pro device now you are pretty much getting:
  1. A chassis that scratches up much easier than the alu framed ones
  2. A telephoto lens/camera which is not all that good
  3. ProMotion. Ok I like that but I can live without it.
  4. Notchless display with the island thing. Novelty but not really relevant or useful for me past the first week of "ooh" and "ahh" noises.
  5. Instant enlargement of wang. Have three kids and am happily divorced and single so I have no need for that.
The camera on the 13 Pro is quite disappointing and experiments with a 14 Pro just leave me in a sort of "meh" state of affairs so I've started lugging my mirrorless around now on that. Casual photography isn't worth it as all it does is create a lot of noise and cost me a lot of storage I have to clean up (or someone else has to when I drop dead one day) so screw it.

I'm that indifferent on the product differentiation that I wish I'd kept my iPhone 12 now and spent on something else.

**** Me! I'm astonished! Props to the article writer for a scoop on what absolutely nobody could have predicted.

Could be a blessing in disguise for me lol.. With almost no significant changes in UX or functionality ( for me ), plus the esim only turnoff.. I may just hang on to my 13 PM longer!

Plus, it releases funds to further explore other ( non essential yet exciting ) hobbies 😊

I feel like we've come full circle on subsidized phones and locked-in carrier contracts. It seems only a minority of people actually pay the retail price for a phone at the register. The vast majority sign-up for some kind of carrier discount and monthly plan, so they walk out the door with a new phone for close to $0 down.

In that kind of environment, of course the OEMs can charge basically whatever they want. The customer is the carrier, not the end-user.
That’s true for only new and existing customers who change carriers. The vast majority pay retail price.

The report added that since the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will gain a number of features currently exclusive to the Pro models, such as Dynamic Island and the 48-megapixel camera, there will be even more need to separate the Pro and non-Pro devices in terms of pricing this year.
So because the iPhone and iPhone Pro will have similar features, the iPhone Pro should cost more? How does that make any sense??

This whole article seems kinda sus.

The iPhone 15 Pro models could face a price hike over the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, according to recent reports.

iPhone-15-General-Mock-Feature.jpg

According to a rumor from an unverified source on Weibo, Apple will increase the price of this year's iPhone 15 Pro models to widen the gap with the iPhone 15 Plus. The extent of the potential price hike is not yet clear. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max start at $999 and $1,099, meaning that any price increase would put both high-end iPhone models north of $1,000 for the first time.

The report added that since the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will gain a number of features currently exclusive to the Pro models, such as Dynamic Island and the 48-megapixel camera, there will be even more need to separate the Pro and non-Pro devices in terms of pricing this year.

Last month, it was reported that Apple is "seriously" concerned about sales of the iPhone 14 Plus, which starts at $899 – just $100 less than the iPhone 14 Pro. As a result, the company is apparently weighing up different pricing strategies to boost sales of the standard iPhone 15 models.

The Weibo post comes from a source without a known track record, so it should be viewed with skepticism at this point in time. Nevertheless, unverified rumors from Weibo occasionally reveal accurate information, such as the iPhone 14 Pro's Adaptive True Tone flash and selection of color options.

Despite multiple reports that last year's iPhone 14 models would see a price increase of around $100, this did not materialize and the devices continued to cost the same as the corresponding iPhone 13 models. The smaller iPhone "Pro" model or equivalent in the lineup has been priced at $999 since 2017, so it is simply a matter of time before Apple raises prices again.

More exsoensive in real terms, or just adusted for inflation?

I don't want to start anything, but I have a serious question.
Hopefully someone can explain this to me😊

In Sweden, (Europe🙂), Apple is the only tech company who had raised their prices.

If you compare with another US tech company, Google, they have not raised the price on the last year's model or the new model. Not on the phones, buds, watches, Chromebook or Chromecast.

( I know, you can't compare hardware with Google and Apple, it was just an example because they are both US company😉)

Is there anyone who can explain it to me why is it so?🙂

If it was for the inflation, wouldn't Google as well raise their prices?
And also everyone else?

Thanks for reading🙂

I agree with with you mostly, apart from the camera, it's much better on the 13 pro, than it was on 12 Pro and the battery also

If you have to finance it, don't buy it.
And that's precisely why prices continue to rise. In today's world most people don't have a pot to piss in so they just finance it. If you add a $100 to the price of the phone that equates to an extra $4.16 per month. That is the secret sauce of selling add-ons to a car. Just add extras and fold it into the finance price.

So the high price hike the iPhone 14 got in most regions outside the US wasn't enough, and some of the American members on here said basically tough, it's the economy difference in currency rates, nothing to do with inflation..
Well now the US could see a rise as well then, hope you still stick to the tune of the currency values and not inflation being the cause.

I suspect Google because of their inferior sales to Apple may well have decided to subsidise the exchange rate on the dollar, because that's the real reason the iPhones have gone up in Europe, not inflation

I think Apple needs to seriously consider knocking off the yearly release cycle. They've gotten to the point where the "new" features are single digits. CPU/Camera/Screen have been at the "good enough" stage for years now.

I'd love to see an 18-24 month release between phones. They can use the extra year to really squash some bugs on the iOS (and macOS) sides.

Fractionally better camera but I found some photos from my old Nikon D70 (from 2004) which look better than anything I can screw out of the 13 Pro. This was somewhat deflating.

I know you can't compare a phone to a proper camera but that's just embarrassing.
