Selling new launch device with last years tech is kind already a price increase.

Thank YOU

It's nice to see someone call out where Apple really does the gouging ... selling older and older things for the same prices (or close) for a long long time.

This came to mind when I looked up the M1 MBA refurb pricing -- and it's never changed. The machines & tech get older and older and they just maintain their price points, even on refurbished (Used) computers.

I love my iPhones but really? We are in the middle of a global recession, now is not the time to be increasing the costs of luxury goods, which lets face it iPhones fall into. Especially as you can bet that Apple will then announce monster profits shortly after.
And how many of those new potential buyers will gladly take advantage of the 24 month 0% financing? Probably a large amount if they have the option. That only adds a little more than $4.16 to the monthly price. I finance my Pixel phones with Google and take advantage of their 24 month 0% financing.

Like many, it appears im being slowly priced out of the Apple ecosystem, despite having a comparatively good wage by national standards.
When I got my 13, back in 2021, I was already at the fence of whether it was worth it or not given my needs of a smartphone (it was not whether I could or not afford it), but if they keep going up the price ladder like they started doing with the iPhone 14 (at least in Europe prices went up quite a bit), I’ll end up not being able to justify that much money for a phone or be priced out entirely.
In 2023, with high inflation in food and energy (amongst the most difficult categories to cut expenses on), and soaring interest rates (which will massively increase mortgage payments in countries with a high share of contracts with variable interest rates, such as Portugal, Spain or Italy), I predict that not many will have the disposable income for a shiny new iPhone, especially if these price increases are proven to be true.

I suspect Google because of their inferior sales to Apple may well have decided to subsidise the exchange rate on the dollar, because that's the real reason the iPhones have gone up in Europe, not inflation
Maybe that's the reason. Thanks😊👍

They did here in The Netherlands though. The 14 Pros were about $200 more expensive than the 13 Pros.

Price increases in the Netherlands were largely due to the weaker Euro/stronger USD rather than inflation. There's been high inflation in the U.S. yet iPhone prices here stayed the same.

I don't want to start anything, but I have a serious question.
Hopefully someone can explain this to me😊

In Sweden, (Europe🙂), Apple is the only tech company who had raised their prices.

If you compare with another US tech company, Google, they have not raised the price on the last year's model or the new model. Not on the phones, buds, watches, Chromebook or Chromecast.

( I know, you can't compare hardware with Google and Apple, it was just an example because they are both US company😉)

Is there anyone who can explain it to me why is it so?🙂

If it was for the inflation, wouldn't Google as well raise their prices?
And also everyone else?

Thanks for reading🙂
I’m no expert but I would be it comes down to whether the company is willing to absorb the higher costs or pass them along to the customer. Maybe Apple thinks their customers will pay the higher prices. Hard to tell.

I guess I don't care what they do with the Pro phones beyond what it means for the lineup below it.

The Pro phones are just a full lineup of stuff I don't need or desire.
I don't need all the lenses, the power, I hate the size, I hate the weight

I really wish, at this point, we could get an iPhone Nano

I need to take a few pictures, scan some documents, listen to music/podcasts, take calls, use CarPlay, use iMessage a ton ... I need a souped up messaging/comms device with a few key Apps for shopping (costco, bank, etc)

I don't want, or need, an iPhone that's a gaming PC, AR base station or video workstation in my pocket
and then there's aesthetics and resale value 😊 The Pro's look much more premium, although I don't need all the pro features, it's the only one I would consider at the moment, my ideal would be a mini with a better battery in a pro casing 😊

Google has been taking a much more aggressive approach when it comes to pricing. They are trying to rapidly increase their overseas presence and gain overall market share. In the U.S., they've been regularly DISCOUNTING their products within just months after launch. For example, the Pixel 7 and 7 Pro have already gone on sale multiple times in the U.S. since they launched in October. In fact, they’re on sale again right now.

Having had a 13 mini and 13 Pro, I enjoy the Pro's aesthetics but it is made quite heavy by the stainless steel. Ended up going back to the 13 mini for full time use.

I'd happily settle for a "14 mini" with ProMotion and the telephoto lens in place of the ultrawide, even if it had to be sold at Pro prices. The battery life is fine, in my experience. I just miss that optical zoom lens a lot.

I upgrade every year mostly because of camera upgrades. If they do a better optical zoom as rumored then please take my money! Of course there are always the drool-worthy upgrades too (for me display upgrades, more storage) that make the upgrade easier to justify.

I wish people understood it's NOT prices going up, it's the currency getting weaker. It's the consequence of a debt based fiat currency. Until we collectively understand this, and demand sound money, nothing will change.
Well that's the cause of the increasing prices yes. And that wouldn't be a problem if people's income increased at the same rate but it doesn't. Ergo our buying power is reduced which is what makes decisions like this more difficult to complete.

Inflation rates have always been the cause. Apple just used currency as an excuse and didn't want to raise US prices. They literally raised prices in most regions outside the US.

Yet Apple will still just as they did this year announce record profits.

The thing is, the availability of this financing is needlessly driving up prices for everybody. It's not about whether you have to finance it to afford it, though there is another discussion that could be had about that.

The problem is that even those of us who can afford these prices are paying more because of a broken system that artificially inflates the cost of the devices whether you're financing or not. If Apple was forced to sell the iPhone for what the market can actually bear for a smartphone, the price would be lower for everybody.
Exactly, credit in general drives prices up. If everything were cash, then people would have to ration, and prices would need to be more competitive.

As long as it was in a Pro body, I would get the Mini with that config, never use ultra wide camera or almost never
