iPhone 15 Pro Still Expected to Feature 'Action' Button Instead of Mute Switch

This makes no sense. What makes a larger action button more capable?
@TheYayAreaLiving 🎗️ I find most of apples built in choices for action button on my new AW Ultra to not be of interest and creating a new shortcut and making it work with the action button requires a little programming on my part so a turn off for me I find the action button for me is not useful but I know some of the exercise ones apple put in it is for many not just ones I use.
You can barely see it? OMG. It's at least as big as the current switch. And do you really need to see it in order to press it? Makes no sense to me.

Agreed! I don’t find it useful either but I think with a software upgrade Apple can offer so much more. It’s got potential. It would be great for a shortcuts App tho.

Damnit, why? The physical mute switch was one of the best innovations on phones. One flip and you KNOW your phone is silent or not, no questioned asked. It doesn't even have to leave your pocket.
With a button you have no idea what the state is after you push it. And even if there's a haptic response, sometimes those can be difficult to feel in a pinch.
Keep the damn mute switch, Apple. Not everything needs to be re-imagined; some things are already perfect.

I use the mute switch a maximum of twice a month. Happy for this change. I'm sure they will have some kind of haptic tap so people who still use it for mute will know its state without looking.
Reminds me of early Dynamic Island leaks. Maybe Apple will combine both buttons using a single surface and call it Action Island.

I will always prefer the classic/retro Mute Switch.
It's funny, when I was younger I liked it... but as my eyes aren't as sharp as they used to be, I find it too small. Now that we have always-on screens, I think I'd rather just have the status displayed there. Much easier and natural to glance at that than the side button IMO.

an action button..completely useless and unnecessary..
mute button on the other hand..very useful.

Given my meh feeling about the 15 Pro line in general this year and how much I love my 14 Pro Max as it is at least I will have my favorite mute switch for a couple more years until I decide to upgrade @TheYayAreaLiving 🎗️
Ideal use for me: A Shutter Button!
We already have 'raise to wake'. It would be great if you picked up your locked phone in landscape orientation, the phone would immediately open the camera app on its own, and you could quickly push the 'Action' button to take a picture.
This would be sooo much faster than having to swipe on the lock screen to open the camera app, and there's no other reason someone would pick up their phone in landscape orientation.
I believe some Sony Xperia phones have / had a dedicated shutter button. Was always jealous of that. I'd love a customized button that can just do that without unlocking or swiping first.
Or perhaps push the action button once to open the camera app, and subsequent action button pushes to take pictures.

Anyway, yeah, that camera hump (no longer just a bump) is getting pretty ridiculous on a lot of phones.
Not to mention, its a rumor. I generally don't offer opinions on stylistic or functional choices exhibited in rumors.

And reminding me of the early incorrect rumors about the "lozenge" or "pill" shaped cutout inspired this idea: maybe it will be two buttons when in a normal state, but when you need them, they flow together to form a giant button.
