I'm still on an iPhone 8 Plus. I've definitely had my money's worth out of it, so will most probably be looking to upgrade this year. Just bought a brand new iPad Pro with USB-C port so it would be nice to have both using the same charging cable.

Faster performance is always appreciated, but I don’t need it right now. I would love longer battery life, but is it worth the $300-$500 I’d pay to get it? No.

I just hope Apple isn’t limiting big upcoming features to the new chip.

The only thing that would push me into an upgrade would be a big bump in camera performances. I was on the 11Pro until the 14Pro. The advances in the camera tech was what pushed me to upgrade to the 14.

Don’t really care about the USB-C, my phone goes on a charging puck. The boost in efficiency is a nice to have as the battery already meets my life expectations. performance wise the phone has been fine for a while. The only people that care about the benchmarks are the androids since they have always been 2~4 years behind in the performance department until the latest snapdragon iteration, if I want to game It will be on my PS5.

i bet there are still a lot of people with some old iPhone SE/7/8 out there

People upgrading models that old is more of a natural demand which previous new gen iphones the past few years would have seen. This article seems to be talking about a jump that the iPhone 4 and 6’s might have seen.

Whoopie!!! CrippleOS now xx.x% faster than before.

Give me a proper OS that can use the large screen and has access to the terminal and file system.
It's powerful enough to be an entire computer, so give us the option to use it as one.

If you make an Ultra and it comes with Mac OS so that I can plug it into a 4k monitor and use it with a mouse and keyboard to do regular MacOS things (and with iOS "mode" for commuting / bed use, etc) then I will order it the moment it goes on sale...

...and then promptly duck away from the airborne porcine hordes...

If the rumors are to be believed the 15pro is going to really be leaps and bounds better than the 14pro in almost every conceivable way. Reading all this makes me regret having purchased the 14pro!

If I didn't drop and break (shattered) my 8 plus I would still be using it. But, ATT offered way too much money for it in the upgrade exchange and here I am with a 12 Pro Max. But damn did I love my 8 plus.

To do what exactly? Can’t say my iPhone 12 Pro Max feels slow whatsoever. Not even my iPhone 11 from work (not really a bad thing, speaks for those devices). I don’t expect Instagram or Safari to show much improvements on a faster device.

iPhone itself seems to have hit its peak. The only thing that would get me to upgrade at this point would be a much lighter Pro Max device and battery life for days using some new advanced battery technology (wishful thinking)

I LOL at the implied pressure from constant articles suggesting we should all get a Pro or Pro Max. Sorry, not interested and never will be. Non-Pro is more than fine for me and most people.

Lol, I literally can't belive that the press is falling for this blatant attempt by the suppliers to push for sales.

The suppliers in the chain are absolutely desperate for phones to sell and for Apple to request more orders. We all know Apple orders based on demand and hate holding too much supply.

Apple filed some patents a while ago of doing something like that. Basically using the iPhone to dock into other devices. Like an iMac “shell” or a laptop “shell” whereas the shells would basically turn it into a full fledged computer by adding bigger screen, physical keyboards, pointing devices, ports, additional storage etc. I think Samsung also experimented with it but it didn’t take off. Withe the increase in power now of the iPhones I think it still might be worth a look although even though Apple always denies it, they would be afraid of it canibilizing full computer sales.

"If Apple wants me to upgrade, their phones need to do NEW things."

I believe Apple's upcoming AR device will rely heavily on a user's iPhone for heavy-lift AR processing.

And as a result, the added boost in cpu/gpu performance will be very important and key to success.
