With the iPhone 15 lineup, Apple is planning to adopt a USB-C port instead of a Lightning port in order to comply with regulatory changes that are being introduced in Europe. The USB-C port has been widely rumored at this point, but a first look at the actual iPhone 15 Pro chassis with included USB-C port was today provided to MacRumors and later shared on Twitter by leaker Unknownz21.

It's not hard to imagine what a USB-C port on an iPhone looks like as a replacement for a Lightning port because Apple already uses USB-C ports for iPads and Macs, but it is always interesting to get a look at leaked components. In addition to confirming a USB-C port for the iPhone 15 Pro, the image also provides the first glimpse at the tweaked curves rumored for the device.

Apple is expected to make some minor design updates to the iPhone 15 Pro chassis, adding a deeper curve that's visible in the leaked image. The company is also rumored to be transitioning to a titanium material instead of stainless steel, and the brushed metal of the device does look like it has a titanium finish.

With the transition to USB-C, Apple is planning to replace the E75 Lightning Controller with an E85 Port Controller, according to Unknownz21.

Note that while it is the iPhone 15 Pro shown with a USB-C port, the port update is coming to the entire iPhone 15 lineup, including the standard iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The design refinements will be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro models.

We should get rid of USB all together, they have mag charging wireless anyways, so get rid of usb c and that should shorten the iphone more since we don't need it. My house have wireless station and my car got wireless station also. I rarely use the USB on my Iphone for charging.

who said I need to charge in the car?

whenever i get in the car, I usually control my music via bluetooth so i take out my phone and set it near the center console which has wireless charging.

i rarely get it down to 40% daily and often end the day with 60% battery.
The discussion was about charging, and you said: "wireless charging is far superior in terms of UX. easier to pick up and drop off for quick checks. i get in my car and i just drop it on the wireless charger. no need to fiddle with dangling wires in the car."

shame it will be just for the Pro. It is inconvenient to have to use to different cords to charge my iPhone and my iPad. Rather counterintuitive for an Apple ecosystem as well.

This is not just for the Pro. EU law is requiring it for all devices, so it will apply to all models.

I can't remember the last time I used wireless charging. They should just remove it altogether.
I can’t remember the last time I used wired charging. By bedside charger is wireless, my desk charger is wireless, and my car charger is wireless.

So they are going back to the clamshell rounded edge design?... man it's always sharp edges 4 years, round edges 4 years, and so on... like the waves of the ocean reeling back, and coming in... how boring and predictable...

But I guess there's only so much you can do with smartphone edge design?

very little evidence that it kills the battery. that's what the charging curve is for.

Still a lot of wasted energy...

And btw "topping off" your battery constantly is what is worst for it (as is letting it drain too low)... What's best is keeping it from 50-60%, or around that range, which I will admit, wireless charging makes far more convenient and easy to do.. I'll give you that.

The problem I have with USB C is now work colleagues will want to grab my charger to charge up their device without asking me permission. Those Android users are always looking for a charge at others expense. They don’t even have the decency to put it pack when they are done or they keep it their space like it’s theirs.
Yea even if it's a pen, put it back! I hate the people "Oh it's just a pen." No it's stealing and disrespect if they dont return it. I don't care if people borrow something even if I'm not there as long as they don't use so much that I notice.

Apple will find a way to muck this up... Count on it. Albeit is bandwidth throttling or device signature mechanisms...

They always do.

Neat. But it’s a USB-C port. If you’ve seen one you’ve seen them all 😂.

With that said, I’m ready for a more universal port and charging cables. Befor I got my M1 MBP I didn’t really care but now that 90% of my devices are USB-C it’s a welcome addition to the iPhone.

It's definitely good to have options. The only reason I have to use my wireless chargers is if I have a low battery and I'm using the port for something else.

Because every car has wireless charging and wireless CarPlay built in.

Oh, there’s an adapter for that? Guess I’ll use a cord to plug in that wireless charger…..

Using my iPhone to record video and AirDrop videos daily, I really hope the USB-C port is at least 3.0 speeds.
Why? Because I want to connect an external SSD to my iPhone for video transfers (without all the GD dongles).
1) It’s more reliable than AirDrop in my experience.
2) It makes it so I can transfer files with ease to a Windows PC. Spoiler for Apple: even some Mac users don’t exclusively use macOS.
Also, given that they advertise this as something that can be used for “Professional Workflows”, anything slower than USB 3.0 speeds would contradict that narrative.

10 minutes? try 5 seconds. grab a magsafe battery and you effectively added 50% charge in 5 seconds.
You forget just how small the MagSafe battery pack is. It barely fills up an iPhone Mini, or 40% of the Pro Max battery.

10mins of USB-C charging gives me about 30% or so on my 12 PM. That’s faster than MagSafe ever will be. I don’t hate wireless charging, in fact I love my MagSafe Duo and use it every night.

It’s just not fast enough for quick top ups on my hectic days.

Yea way less capacity for a way higher price than the Anker. We love the Anker one. My wife uses her phone a lot for videos so she can just slap it on while she's out.

I’m all about Titanium! Straight up. That Stainless Steel gots to go! It’s outdated now. Bring the premium iPhone back. In addition, iPhone will face a massive drop in weight. It’s going to feel different. Titanium iPhone will remind us of iPhone 4/4s.
I like titanium. I have several things made from Ti. However, using Ti WILL NOT cause a "massive drop in weight" The amount of material in the frame simply is not enough to cause a massive difference. For reference Stainless steel (current Pros) is ~8 g / cubic cm. Ti is ~4.5. Aluminum (current non-pro) is ~2.7. So there will be a noticeable difference but nothing tremendous. That said, I do hope the frame is Ti as long as the price doesn't go crazy high. I will be surprised if it is actually Ti though, as it is notoriously difficult to machine and is hard on the cutting tools.

Won't make a lick of difference to me, but congrats to those of you who have so much emotional energy invested in this topic 😂
