No, because the 'surprise' was never really a surprise anyway. These days it's all about the software rather than hardware which is why the hardware is nothing more than a very tiny incremental update each year.

Unfortunately Apple dropped the ball on software a long time ago so even the software updates have been tiny & incremental. I really don't hold out any hope for this year to be any different. It's the Apple way.
Well, I agree to a point.

Hardware releases have long since plateaued and year on year theres not much to get excited about anymore. You can guarantee that yearly its very small changes.

I wonder what kind of name Apple will make up for "AI". No way they will just call it AI.
The camera has been a lot of AI for years already.
I don't know why they would add "AI" just now in 2024 when they could have done it in maybe 2018.

Not gonna happen.

Where have you been? They have been uisng the term “Machine Learning” for years.

AI is possibly misused a lot now. A lot of tasks labeled as AI are Machine learning, which is more focused.

But I suppose the general perception of AI is being able to have a meaningful conversation with a machine. I imagine Apple are reticent to label that as it involve a lot of potential legal stuff For a start and the fact that a LOT of people are scared of, and will actively avoid AI.

Amazing, Incrediible, Awesome!!! Not!

Just looks the same like the other 5000 iPhone models. So it's more like YOFC - yawning on the floor crying.

And please go away with buttons:
I remember a WWDC course about design and userinterfaces and they showcased an airplane with just one button for takeoff and landing. But Timmy wasn't in the audience - so how should he know...?

OK based on the size of my 13 Pro which is smaller, and the location of the 5G antenna on it which this appears to be in exactly the same spot, that camera button is in a terrible position.

Shutter buttons on actual cameras are all the way to the right so I can hit it with my index finger without blocking the entire back of the camera with my hand. The middle is not a good spot.

But as I type this I realize that I'm old and expect good pictures to be taken in landscape. It now occurs to me everyone shoots vertical, and this would probably work well for that.

Personally that slide sounds like it's making the opposite point. I'm not sure anyone would want to get onto a plane with just one button for each function, because it's more complex than that. And if they expect me to trust Siri to land a plane, well, people wouldn't even get in a car with it.

I know it's just an example, but to me that example says sometimes buttons are required.

silly camera lump rather than just making the whole phone thicker and flat with room for a larger battery, many end up making it flat by thickening it with a case - wasted space
capture button positioned to ensure accidental presses when holding it or using a tripod clamp

With the size of the camera bumps these days, the added weight and thickness to make the camera bump flush would be profound. The Pro Max/Plus phones are heavy enough as it is.

We’ve reached peak iPhone it seems the model never gonna change. Google still changing theirs… granted their 9 pro looks like an iPhone haha.

Actually planning on getting a regular 16 (upgradinf from my 13)!
Perhaps a Pro, but I have grown less interested in the pro features.
The dream would be 90hz on the regular phone, but I'm sure it won't happen.

I hope the base 16 bumps up to at least 90Hz. I know several people who want to upgrade to an iPhone with a better 90Hz or 120Hz screen, but don't want the weight of a Pro model (and they just keep getting bigger and/or heavier). Weight is becoming a bigger issue than some realize.

Where have you been:)
This is something entirely different. This is a feature that’s gonna be marketed all over. You think they will just call it machine learning? I’m willing to bet on that actually. You in?

I wonder how the base 16 models' Apple case treatment will be for the flash cutout. Just a small pin hole in the case? Or do they extend the main camera module cutout to include the flash, or some kind of tab cutout for the flash?... I can't see any of those 3 designs looking quite right.
