i am glad I held onto my iPhone 11 Pro Max for as long as I did, since apple intelligence is making obsolete all the previous versions. i hope they upgrade the pro max ram to 16gb too. my 11 pro max battery is at 75% now but it says no throttling yet, hopefully the 16 pro max will last me another 5 years.

14 Pro user got it the yr it came out.
Will absolutely get the 16 Pro Max this fall.
Always wait 2 yrs ohhh can’t

To each their own, but I don’t understand why anyone would get excited to upgrade modern iPhones every 1-2 years.

Yeah, but that was back when Apple was still hungry. 🍲
This isn’t an Apple problem, it’s more of a consumer problem. The consumer base is mostly established and continues to buy the products regardless of iterative year-over-year updates. Couple that with the fact that smartphones are a mature product and I’m not sure what people expect.

I had no intention of upgrading from my 14 Pro to the 15 Pro. But in the couple months leading up to the 15 Pro launch, my 14 Pro’s battery went into free fall. I think it was in the low 80s by the time I decided to upgrade. The 15 Pro has performed much better. Holding strong at 96% at the moment.

My 15 Plus works just fine and I like the battery life. The vast majority of changes to the 16 line I either don’t care about - or actively do not want. So… keeping the 15 Plus. Maybe I’ll swap out its FineWoven case (which isn’t in bad shape) with a leather one that I also bought at the time.

I miss the golden days of Apple when innovation was their heartbeat and every product felt like a glimpse into the future.
You’re looking at it wrong (Miss you, Steve!).

Sure, Apple lacks product innovation… but with Ol’Tim, the NEW innovation is $20-50/mo subscription services, over-priced RAM updates, over-priced AppleCare+ pushes, over-crowded Apple Stores but nobody to assist for 15+ minutes, OS lockdowns, and more!

Sure, the car never worked out, but that’s what we have the Apple TV subscription for. And a new button on the phones. It all adds up in the end 💜

Also, Apple has diversified in many diverse ways — Tim says to be grateful for this, also.

🍎

In any case if you’re interested in AI and get an 8GB phone I’m not sure you’re going the best route as then you already know for sure you’re gonna want to upgrade next year.
You make a valid point. For me - as things stand right now - I plan to turn off AI (on all of my devices) if given the choice.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max has a 120mm telephoto lens (5x zoom), not a 77mm (3x). That's the smaller 15 Pro. I don't get the rumor about a 300mm 'super telephoto camera' btw. You expect the 16 Pro Max to have four camera's on the back?
I was going to say number 6 and 10 seem mutually exclusive to me. They keep saying that both the Pro and Pro Max will have a 5x zoom but also say the Pro Max will have a super telephoto well beyond that.

lol, the phones getting even bigger. Keeping my 13 mini until it no longer functions I guess, can't see them coming to their senses any time soon unfortunately.
Same. If screens are never going to be smaller, then I hope the phones will become noticeably lighter. I even wish my mini were 25% lighter.

Going from a 4S to a 6 felt amazing with less weight and rounded edges that felt thin in your hand. I'm optimistic we will see something like that design change again someday.

Does anyone have a link for the wallpaper with water used in the image?

I wonder why Apple doesn’t just release a new iPhone every 2 years. I can’t think of another Apple product on a yearly upgrade timetable. At this point I’m sure the vast majority of users will keep their phones for a min. of 2 years. The yearly release has become meaningless and engenders disappointment.

Apple manufacturing/shipping/selling 600,000 iPhones per day (on the average) every day of the year knows what they are doing keeping their 1 billion active customers happy.

It's why Apple is one of the most successful tech companies in the world.

The good news is you aren't required to purchase one.

My wife and I will each be purchasing a 16 PM.

Coming from a 13 pro, the 16 pro DOES seem like a quality upgrade. My only concern is RAM. I worry that 8GB of RAM might limit availability to future features of Apple Intelligence. Rumors are that the 17 pro models will include 12GB of RAM...might be worth holding out another year.
iPhones 12 Pro, 13 Pro, and 14 Pro all had 6GB RAM and only jumped to 8GB RAM with iPhones 15 Pro.

iPhones 11, 12 and 13 were all 4GB RAM, only jumping to 6GB for iPhone 14 (and 15).

To me, this means that Apple bumping RAM will most likely happen for iPhones 18. But definitely no sooner than iPhones 17.

There's this assumption in here that on-device AI will force Apple to bump up RAM on all iPhones 16. But this is just speculation.

I say that, even if AI requires >6GB (or >8GB) RAM, Apple will happily throttle the speed a bit just to make it fit the 6GB and 8GB RAM configurations rather than jump to 8GB and >8GB for 16/16 Plus and 16 Pro/Max, respectively.

I’m upgrading from my 13 Pro Max… but if I can get a 15 Pro max a very very good discount… I will consider my options
