Agree with many others. Have a 14PM and can’t see any hardware improvements that will make a difference at all. Camera quality looks the same as 15, which wasn’t much over the 14. It would be nice for a 3x(70mm) equivalent) as well as 5x (120mm) option for portraits, which I’ve heard is a bit too long. Better exposure on the ultra wide camera? Yay, not. Apple Intelligence will take a year before it’s any good and ChatGPT voice is acailable from my lockscreen and control centre already - I can live without a dedicated button. It’s not much lighter than the 14PM and it’s bloody expensive! Why shell out £1199 on a new phone when all I need is a £95 battery replacement? I’m holding out for the 17 which should have more significant camera updates and more RAM

I guess one big reason behind the stagnation of iPhone design is absence (or forced leave) of Ive, the head designer. He had his portion of flops, but he had also wonderful innovative designs. Without Ive, there is nobody at Apple to bother to think about or dare to try new design, they all milking 6 year old design yet spending 10 billion dollars on failed projects or to continue incremental failures like iPadOS. Just witness what they offer new in iPadOS18: calculator app. That's it. A leading multibillion tech company worked hard for whole 3 years and all they could think of were the damn calculator and some color icon themes ala 2011. 4 years after Airpods Max, all they could do was to change the port and bring some new colors. Amazing. Probably time for Cook and Federini to leave too if they don't know what to do in their shiny offices.

Kuo estimated that sales of all four iPhone 16 models reached about 37 million units in the first weekend after Apple began accepting pre-orders, which is down nearly 13% compared to first-weekend sales of the iPhone 15 series last year.
Even if this is true, that’s still insane.
It wasn’t that long ago that the iPhone 6 was setting sales records… for selling 10 million units first weekend.
And that wasn’t 10 million pre-orders, that was 10 million sales, both pre-orders and people who went and picked it up in the store.
40 million pre-orders in 3 days for the 18th yearly release of an iPhone is wild to me.
I don’t think people really have a grasp of how popular these things are.

Not surprised. With no major changes compared to 15 Pro, slow Apple Intelligence rollout and the 15 Pro/Pro Max getting Apple Intelligence, many may be holding onto their 15 Pro and may be upgrading only next year for the 17 Pro/Pro Max.

Also good to hear that demand for base 16 models are up, especially for the Plus variant. Maybe the new brighter colors help. Apple should consider having brighter and better colors for the Pro models.

right now i think best bang for the buck is a 15 pro, soon iphone SE 4 will be best bang for the buck :)

iphone 17 air? maybe next thing that could get users to purchase, if they make 17 same design ... RIP apple :(

Crazy, why is there this expectation that everyone needs to upgrade every year? Nobody is forcing anyone. People who do need or want or its time, they will upgrade. But if you have the fine functioning phone there is no need. And I think Apple understands that. I guess there is only 1% + you-tubers who need latest and greatest. Or are you so lame that the phone is a status symbol for you? Also, not sure why analysts and investors think that people will be upgrading their phones every year. iPhone is just a commodity now.

I think a lot of people upgraded to the 15 for the USB-C, meaning one cable all around the house. The new features are really minimal, and the 15 Pro will do most of the AI stuff. So, none of this is surprising.

Also, the ecomony is still not great with high interest rates, so people are less likely to do things like this

I will stay with my 15 Pro. Since the vanilla phone has now a macro mode I would consider getting the normal phone. 3x optical zoom is perfect for me, 5x does not fit my situations very often. So the cameras are nearly identical below 5x, right? Would only be interested in a Pro with 3 lenses with 48 mp. Perhaps we will see this next year.

I am still on 12pro max and will probably wait until 17... they made a flop without zoom camera upgrade...
Same. Does everything I want perfectly - I occasionally get the urge to upgrade but in all honesty the 12Pro does everything I need so see no need to change.
Same with my iMacM1.

I would love to talk sh*t, but I am one of those people that upgraded from a 15 Pro. What can I say? I had my reasons. 🤪

I think expections for massive sales in this day and age isn’t realistic. That said they still sold 28 million pros in one weekend. Still alot

Ok two things since everyone here is declaring the iPhone 16 DOA:

1. The vast majority of iPhone buyers don't replace their phones every year. Businesses usually offer new iPhones to their employees every two years.

iPhone 16 may not be a huge leap from 14 or 15, but if you're coming from a device older than that, you will notice that the phone is better in just about every conceivable way.

Everyone believes there needs to be a "super cycle" for the new iPhone to be a success. That just isn't the case for the reasons mentioned above.

2. Analysts don't have access to Apple's own direct sales: online, Apple Stores and corporate buyers. That means analysts have zero visibility into sales channels that make up the vast majority of iPhone sales.

3. The economy overall may be looking good, but people have less disposable income and purchasing power now than they have in recent years. Not only have prices for many consumer products increased heavily (food, energy, services), but the high interest rates mean that folks with mortgages have significantly less disposable income. This impacts everything, including iPhones sales.

It's all relative. The smartphone market has boomed in the interim and Apple keeps losing marketshare, even in its own segment because the competition has stepped up, which is a good think for everyone. I switched once Android stopped sucking and I don't see anything compelling since Apple released the XR. It's all tinkering around the edges. My current phone costs half of what the base iPhone Pro costs and has similar everyday performance with a much better battery, charger (100W included), cooling system, twice the RAM and storage, with only the cameras giving Apple the edge. The under screen fingerprint sensor works all the time, reliably and quickly and much better than I remember the home button on my iPhones ever being. Watching my friend contort himself to let his iPhone see his face while he crouches to pay at car park contactless pay points is free entertainment I do thank Apple for.

The more people who vote with the their wallets, the less Apple will be able to treat the iPhone as a cash cow and will have to look at genuine innovations and improvements beyond stupid emojis or watch their profit margin lower in order to compete.

Isn’t it a little odd to compare demand for the 16 to that of the 15, given the 15 is only a year in? Surely the number of folks who upgrade annually is significantly less than the number who upgrade biannually or every three years?
This isn't just about 15 users upgrading to 16. If everything was equal you'd expect the same amount to upgrade from 13 to 16 now as did 12 to 15 a year ago

Zero Innovation, 60Hz only, no AlwaysOn Display, a shi**y camera button as only new hardware feature, no Apple Intelligence for most parts in the world, 1000 Euro/Dollar for this piece?

Are they drinking nitro thinner?
The Pro they are talking about in this news post is 120hz and has always on, just like the pros before

Otherwise I agree

This is about the 16 demand being low, but the reference point is the 15, so in that context I think the tagline is unreasonable.

No one I know is buying it because there’s no Apple Intelligence in the EU (which is 100% Apple’s fault)

If you look into the release countries it's not (yet) an EU-issue. They're only releasing US first and some time later a couple of other English-native countries. There's a lot of work that has to be done in localising

I hear you. I’m not stressing this time and can wait. Although, I did manage to secure two for launch day PS5 disc versions for me and my sister. One at Best Buy and the other at Walmart. Could have sold them for big money but unlike scalping *******s, we actually wanted them. Both are still going strong to this day! I’m the one upgrading to the Pro but not her. Still happy with the PS5 and just not interested in the Pro. I can’t blame her.
Yeah, I’m on the fence if I should get a PS5 Pro. I skipped the PS4 Pro. Maybe if GTA VI and Death Stranding: On the Beach benefits a lot from it I’ll get this half-step to the PS6. My PS5 is running great and those games won’t drop for another year so no rush there. I’m playing Astro Bot at the moment and it looks and runs great. I can definitely wait.
