I have an iPhone 16 Pro Max which got borked by a 'apple finder' 'restore' of an old backup - nothing dodgy at all...

The phone got stuck on the recovery screen (computer/cable) & was not detectable by apple configurator, or finder.
I was eventually able to get it into DFU mode - apple configurator shows a DFU box & screen remains blank

I tried - revive,

However the 'installing ioS' step always fails - the phone screen remains blank, and after 15 mins or so I get

IOS cannot be restored on this iPhone
Gave up waiting for device to transition from Port DFU state to DFU state.

This occured whether I a) let the tool download iOS b) manually download ios and drag/drop c) try restoring from a backup

I've tried this on two macbooks

So the phone is detectable in DFU but I'm struggling to get it to restore.

One of the mac's is personal (my OH!) the other is 'mine' (corporate, usb port writes blocked -- but I don't think this affects apple configurator? reads are ok)

To clarify - my question was whether there any tips/tricks - for example if there are issues with apple configurator, etc. I think I've done all I can, but it's the first time I've hit it. So worth asking IMO...

Before you step into an Apple Store and get that checked out by an Apple Genius, did you try a different cable? Sometimes broken cables may stop working in middle of restores and ruin the process.

Did you hold the buttons long enough?

Maybe it is not charged up properly to restore. Have you tried, first to, charge with magesafe, then try to restore with cable connected to a Mac.

Turned out that Apple couldn’t get it to stay connected either. It works fine up in dry but worst then properly reboot.

Entire mid assembly was replaced (had to wait for delivery to store though it was next day)

Phone note working again. On the upside complete with new battery…

in uk this was replaced free of charge
So was it a fault in the logic board and/or charging port?
