Bloomberg's Mark Gurman believes the iPhone 16 Pro will start at $999 in the U.S., meaning there would be no starting price increase over the iPhone 15 Pro.

"I don't expect the Pro entry price to be raised from $999," said Gurman.

This prediction runs counter to a report last week from Taiwanese research firm TrendForce that claimed the iPhone 16 Pro would start at $1,099 in the U.S. with 256GB of storage. This meant the iPhone 16 Pro would not have been available with 128GB of storage for $999 like the iPhone 15 Pro is, but Gurman believing that the $999 price point will stick around suggests that a 128GB configuration will remain available after all.

Apple has offered at least one Pro model or equivalent tier of the iPhone at a starting price of $999 in the U.S. since the iPhone X was released in 2017.

$999 or $1,099? We'll find out for sure in just a few hours. Apple's event kicks off at 10 a.m. Pacific Time, and we'll have live coverage of the announcements.

The new iPhone 16, now at bargain basement prices. We at Apple have managed to increase our cost effectiveness. While we must sacrifice higher margins, we realize that, due to inflationary pressures, times are hard and will be passing our savings down to our beloved customer. Our altruism knows no bounds. You are going to love it.

I definitely hope that it starts at $999 this year

I’m going to pick it up at the Salem, New Hampshire, Apple Store sometime in the next two months and buy it on a T-Mobile installment plan

didn't this same thing happen for the 14 pro… last minute 1099 rumor but keynote said otherwise

A thousand bucks for a phone is still nuts to me. Each to their own.
There’s plenty of cheaper options in the market.

People with different needs for a pocket computer they use everyday are willing to pay more for one that meets their needs than you’re willing to pay for your needs for a phone.

This is especially true if people can buy a pocket computer to support their creative and professional computing needs.

Then don't think of it as a phone. Think of it as an incredibly powerful and compact computer, a high-quality camera with multiple lenses, a 4K video camera, a GPS device, a TV, a radio, yada, yada, yada. Imagine you just arrived from the year 1980, and you can't believe $1000 buys you all that gear.

(Having said that, I'm quite happy with my iPhone 12 Pro and won't be upgrading either!)

Why do we quote Mark Gurman sorry? The man has been so badly wrong on so many points the last couple of years you might as well take tips from me.

I think he is a bit overrated, but his accuracy is still pretty high at 86%.

$1,000 for a phone, let's say you keep it for three years, that's $333.33 a year. Some people spend more than that on coffee. Or a new TV that only does one thing.

Obviously the Pro phones are not for everyone and there are less expensive options available.
