Not really; consumers are pulling back everywhere. Certain sectors can indicate trends.

Not everywhere. US retail sales are still growing as of July into August, as are vehicle and consumer electronics sales.

My family has been pulling back spending because we want to save and invest more, not because we can't afford it. That and we are already own too much crap.

Sorry but no, I am citing examples here, Apple has a truly innovation problem, Apple is not merely a company , it is the largest company, so frankly I expect more. I love apple, and it is not an hater statement.
That’s fine and it’s okay to hold them accountable. All I’m stating is when they do announce what you are asking for appreciate it. If you think someone is doing it better or faster, then maybe move to that platform.

Then don't think of it as a phone. Think of it as an incredibly powerful and compact computer, a high-quality camera with multiple lenses, a 4K video camera, a GPS device, a TV, a radio, yada, yada, yada. Imagine you just arrived from the year 1980, and you can't believe $1000 buys you all that gear.

(Having said that, I'm quite happy with my iPhone 12 Pro and won't be upgrading either!)
Agreed. I used to think this kind of money is nuts for a phone. But I use my phone much, much more than my computer (not counting company PC at work) or even iPad. It’s so convenient and it does so much. My main upgrade driver is the ever increasing quality of the cameras. I don’t like spending the money, but to me it is worth it. And I don’t upgrade computers as often as I used to.

Hours/minutes before the announcement if when everybody should stop caring about rumors, if you ever did.

$1,000 for a phone, let's say you keep it for three years, that's $333.33 a year. Some people spend more than that on coffee. Or a new TV that only does one thing.

Obviously the Pro phones are not for everyone and there are less expensive options available.
and since it's Apple product, you can recoup like 50% of the price by selling it after 3 years. so it's $150 a year.

Naturally, please spend your money however you see fit

...but I personally can't imagine spending into the $1k+ territory for a phone
If it were just a phone, I 100% agree.
it is much more than a phone though, and can replace other devices (eg ipod, ipad and for some an entire computer). personally, if it cam as a fold I’d very likely get that and get rid of my iPad… whether or not any of the features other than a phone are worth it, that’s entirely up to each…

They will for sure increase price for iPhone 17 if they add 12GB RAM. If they had added $100 now, and $100 then, it would have been $200 total for 4GB RAM increase and nothing else. Would maybe have been too much obvious of a scam?

If you do or say nothing, nothing will change.
Keep fighting the good fight! I've spoken with my wallet all of my life and the price of a can of beans is still going up. One of the last things that was still less than $1 at the supermarket is no longer. What to do, what to do...

Yeah, we make these arguments all of the time but then are told that we are bad at math or something like that.

If you buy the things you complain about, you are also “bending over” lol
I agree. The issue is there will always be something you don’t like no matter what phone manufacturer/operating system you are using. If you feel apple isn’t providing what you need or in the time you need, move on. I say this from a position of experience. I was 100% ready to leave apple for android and Samsung. My caveat was ios18. I was waiting to see what they announced. I personally, unlike others here, love what is coming with ios18. It was more than enough to convince me to stay. Based on my lifestyle everything they announced I see myself using effectively every day. I never purchased a pro phone so I will move to that series of phone, which will also help with some of my concerns. Hopefully the people here that “seem” like they are only complaining find what works for them, even if that means moving to another platform.

The term is discretionary spending.

People have started to reduce discretionary spending and you’re in that camp. That includes McDonald’s and Apple spending for many.

The phone feature is the “feature” I use the least.

Negitive. The thing I complain about is a tool used to earn and manage money. I also have other quality tools, and I
P & M about the cost and features of some of them too.

That is a lot of money for a phone, I bet it cost nowhere near it to produce, Sure all the stuff that goes to design it may cost a fair bit but to be honest and this goes for all phones including Androids, is there anything on phones that is much difference from phones a few years ago? Faster processors, a bit more memory and maybe a better camera and that is it. Can your £1000 iPhone, Samsung, or what ever other phone have, really do anything that much better than my £130, 3-year-old Oppo?

Maybe a bit faster and take slightly better photos or videos, but no phone, not one phone is going to be great at photo or video because the sensor/s are too small.

If people want to spend silly money on these phone, then that is up to them, spending over a grand for a computer when I got my Mac was enough for me.

iPhine Pro's prices has been 999 USD since the inception of iPhone X in 2017

Based on US inflation, $999 in 2017 is equivalent of $1283 in 2024. It's really good that Apple keeping iPhone base price the same - except in EU of course...

In the EU it's mostly about currency rates against USD.

European prices = US price * currency rate * VAT + national taxes if applicable + a little extra

Apple will keep it at $999 for 128 GB.

Next year:
iPhone 17 - $799 128 GB
iPhone 17 Air - $999 128 GB
iPhone 17 Pro - $1199 256 GB
iPhone 17 Pro Max - $1299 256 GB

I will be extremely impressed if they add $20 worth of NAND without increasing the price by $100. Only Apple could pull that off.
The phone only cost $190 to make not including shipping manufacturing marketing engineering so in total probably around $350 . So Apple & its resellers are picking the rest so I’m sure Apple can be less greedy & take a $20 hit. They could even lower the Price to $899 starting if they wanted to.
