I don’t care about the AI end-user features (which to me are gimmicky at best) but I’m upgrading simply because I’m on the 13PM and I had made that decision even before the announcement.
Of course this update is iterative, the mobile phone is essentially a solved problem. I’m not sure what people are expecting.

When you’re introducing a new button as a feature, you know you’ve run out of ideas.

Here we go with the, "The iPhone 16 Pro is more evolutionary than revolutionary. Has the Apple lost it's shine?"
Apple put themselves in this corner. Nobody is forcing them to have a big product announcement every September. The days of big enhancements every year are behind us. Consumers are adjusting, but Apple is still putting on the same annual show.

But Apple have not run out of ideas, the problem is the ‘next big thing’ costs 3.5k and isn’t affordable to the mass market

I haven’t looked at all the videos yet. Do any of them talk about the iPhone 16’s performance…as a phone?

Wish they still sold the 13 Pro Max. I would by another one.
I have 13 Pro and wife has 13 Pro Max. I ordered her a 16 Pro Max since Friday happens to be her 50th birthday. But I'm debating if I should just take her 13 PM as my own just to have a larger phone vs keeping my 13P or getting a 16P for myself. I mean, not my birthday, but I like new toys too :)

This first wave of reviews have been pushing exactly the same message for years. Trying not to piss off too much either Apple or competitors (Samsung, Google). It’s got so boring for general public that I don’t need to watch any of Patel’s or Brownlee’s videos to know what they’ll say.
Personally I am upgrading from 15 Pro Max due to better battery, better wireless charging speeds, better heat management, 4k120, camera control, bigger screen, stronger screen glass, photographic styles, faster modem.

I did watch Patel's and he says it's fine, the new camera button is confusing and not any better than using on-screen controls. It's not exciting, just an okay update, and generally not worth it if you have a 15.

Sounds accurate to me.

Wish MacRumors would stop mentioning her lol she is the worst reviewer out there

  • She is one of the few Apple Watch reviewers that seem to regularly drive with her watches, showing off all of the functionality relating to the diving functions, which I appreciate (even if I am not a diver)
  • Her Mac and IPad reviews always test out things like display support, which not a lot of people do (particularly iPads)
  • She demonstrates a lot of camera functions in her iPhone reviews
I think she is actually one of the better reviewers out there. I wonder why she gets so much hate 🧐

Was worried about Camera Control being confusing, weird, and unintuitive. Unfortunately Nilay Patel reported on it being exactly that on the Vergecast. I can't believe you can't capture a photo with the button if you used it to adjust settings - and you have to touch the screen to dismiss it?

Not confusing at all!

And that strategy is working very well for Apple (and apparently Apple customers). Year after year after year.

So what we know form these "reviews" is this..

Patel wants to utterly slate it but is scared of apple PR and blacklisting.

Marcus thinks its a nothing update based on promises for the future which is wrong.

tech chap hates the photo processing on it and Samsung/pixel beat it.

mrwhostheboss thinks the pro is trash, HATES the camera button gimmick and finds it pointless.

the camera button is ****, useless and slower compared to actually using screen controls and the larger display is not noticeable at all.

If you have 13/14/15 pro, skip it.

This might be the laziest, most pointless update since the normal sized iPhone XS.

I’m definitely sticking with my 13 Pro Max for another year. I don’t see a great reason to upgrade to the 16.
Same.
With the incremental improvements over the past few models, people reportedly now do a ~3~5 year upgrade period as the older models are still supported and still working well for many people. A new battery will refresh the older models just fine.

Camera this. Camera that. Camera the other.

It's a phone, not a camera. And why buy it now, when all the actual software features and upgrades we hear about are months or years away?
exactly

imagine this visual AI look up comes to the camera button in the spring, you'll be 6 months away from the 17 ffs 😂

They've sold this phone on promises for the future, that is shocking from Apple and you can tell reviewer wanted to go to town on them but they're too scared.

If google and Samsung did this, this forum and sheep on twitter would be losing their minds.

Still on my 14PM. This is the longest I’ve ever had an iPhone. I used to get a new one every single year. The one and only reason I want to upgrade it to finally get all my devices on USB C but honestly I think I’ll wait until the 17 at this point unless I can find a good used deal on a 15PM.
