Despite rumors that we would see storage upgrades for the iPhone 16 Pro lineup, the new models continue to have the same starting and maximum storage as the prior-generation iPhone 15 Pro models.

The iPhone 16 Pro starts at 128GB of storage for the $999 model, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max starts at 256GB of storage for the $1,199 model.

Both the iPhone 16 Pro and the iPhone 16 Pro Max can be upgraded with a maximum of 1TB of storage, with Apple not offering a 2TB storage option.

There was speculation that Apple would adopt Quad-Level Cell QLC NAND flash memory that would allow Apple to add more storage in a smaller space at a lower cost, hence the support for 2TB. That didn't happen.

It is worth noting that we have seen 2TB storage rumors for the iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro, and now, the iPhone 16 Pro, without Apple upgrading the storage space.

The standard iPhone 16 models have 128GB of storage for the entry-level models, with a maximum of 512GB, similar to the iPhone 15 lineup.

Makes zero sense for a top of the line, premium product to have same base storage as the basic product...nevermind when 10 minutes of the presentation is dedicated to the camera and video capture. Apple must have a bad contract from 3 years ago, for committing to way too many 128gb modules.

When the MacBook Air M2 launched, some people proposed the excuse that 128GB NAND was no longer available. And that was reason why Apple cheaped out with a single 256GB chip. They were silent when M3 MBA launched with a pair of 128GB NANDs.

Are we back to the theory that there's an oversupply of 128GB NAND? 😆

Let's be real. This is all because of margins.

They want you to buy the Max
Sure. Greed and all that, I get it.

The only angle the marketing folks can justify this is to do this to stay under $1k USD price point for the Pro.

Otherwise having this it contradics a lot of the illusion that this is a "Pro" phone compared to their own offerings, nevermind other brands.

as it should.

if you want 256GB, simply select the option. not hard people.

why would you want Apple to set the higher tier price as the base and denying people the option of having a Pro phone with enough storage they need? oh because *you* think you know what's best for these people who don't need the extra space?
