iPhone 16 Series Cases.. Camera Control Cover?

With the new phones…Have you guys seen the cases that have just a cut out for camera control??? Some of those cases look so ugly.

I’ve only found a couple with the camera control cover. Apples clear case…a clear case from spigen…the lumen case from Otterbox which I got. And a clear supcase. These are the two that I bought along with my preordered phone. Your thoughts on the full cutout or a cover? And what you picked? Prefer?

The last picture is the new OtterBox symmetry. I just can’t stand that cut out.

That’s a good point. I guess I took the guinea pig route. Both the lumen and the supcase should arrive tomorrow. I’ll at least be able to see what it all looks like and feels like. The lumen case is on apples site so hopin for the best.

This might end up being a situation like the action button where at first all the third-party companies just had a cut out. Then changed it. But the camera control is a whole different type of thing. Lot more complex. Guess we shall see.

Thanks for your opinion. Just don't buy cases you don't like and move on. But thanks for making an account only to tell us how you feel about this!

So anyways…. I never knew about this site, but I didn’t join it now, just to make a thread about the phone cases. I know a ton about this stuff and it definitely interests me. I just happened to come across it today.

The camera control button versus cut out on phone cases seems like a highly relevant discussion considering the phone releases Friday and people are interested in different varieties of cases.

I got the Desert titanium color so it should be OK.
Just wondering how sensitive or not the white cover will react to the camera button...
 
Camera Control -- People are saying it's a "step in the right direction" but then even more reviews say it accidentally gets triggered, it's tough to manage, and it's imprecise. We'll see how this one goes.

Cases -- Apple has their special cases, and besides that, nobody is talking about what it's like to have a cut-out in a 3rd party case. I'm not super excited about this.

Is there a market for a 3rd party case that just totally covers up camera control?

The ones from Beats are covered, but I don't know if you consider them third party. Other than that, I’m aware of three third party options right now: Otterbox, SUPCASE and i-Blason

no there are plenty others. I just ordered my Smartish Gripmunk, I received it, and I posted a video on YouTube. Caudabe has posted their collection as well. There's plenty out there.

I just went to the review roundups of MacRumors and 9to5Mac. They link out the others. I watched Nilay Patel's TheVerge video this morning, and he mentioned camera control being imprecise and accidentally triggering. It must be a known issue because apple has a setting to force a double click to open the camera, rather than single click, which he turned on.

I picked up this since the only thing I need covered is the back so I don't scratch it up when I put it on my desk. I went naked with the 15 Pro and it was fine, but would like a little bit of scuff protection.
 
I have a Spigen coming tomorrow for my 16 Pro. Not sure how it treats the cam button but I suspect a cutout. We'll see. I also have the Apple clear hard case in hand. Not sure which of these I will end up using. Or if there might be something better later?

He was mentioning ones with the sapphire crystal over the control area instead of a cutout. All those Caudabe ones have a cutout, as do the Smartish ones, I believe. Your YouTube link doesn't work, so I can't see your video.

Luckily we'll all be able to try it for ourselves! AND, they didn't remove any of the multitude other ways to get to the camera app and take a photo :lol:

I bought/received a TORRA's case and it did come with a cutout

Excellent review. Seems like mostly very small upgrades.

The 48MP Ultrawide seems pretty half-baked: no 24MP mode, zero improvement to videography, and virtually identical in photography except for ProRAW.

Very disappointing there is no 24MP mode: that was a huge draw for the 48MP upgrades.

Clarification: Chris Niccolls & Jordan Drake are not influencers; they are industry photography reviewers, with a professional background.

Here, MKBHD is showing how it swipes with the Apple silicone case with the cover (At 8m43s) and it looks pretty dang smooth. This is definitely the way to go, so I wouldn’t splurge on these cut out cases yet. Just get something temporary until the 3rd parties can get their hands on the actual phones to be able to do their testing and finally release new cases.
