iPhone 16 USB-C Still Limited to USB 2, No Change for 16 Pro Either

I’m talking about the number of people, or even organisations that use iPhone as a professional video camera. And that's partly marketing but mainly quality in video. For example, Apple ProRes video format. Nothing comes close. Marketing "Shot on iPhone" is great, but the proof is on the pudding. Sure, some might use a Samsung Phone, but I don’t believe the numbers are anything close to iPhone.

I'm not talking about stills. That’s about even.
Yeah, I'm still unclear how this relates to data transfer rates. Apple wants people to use wireless but has to offer a modern wired transfer speed on the "pro" models because otherwise the competition will take over. Have you tried transferring those prores files over icloud? I think you're debating a different issue than I am.

I am not interested in a "what's the best video camera phone" contest – as far as I'm concerned, they do all right for everyone who is shooting video as a part of their larger job and where the distribution is mostly on social media. They are small and easy to carry.

If there are dedicated video pros out there shooting with iPhones, I applaud their patience. But again, not my argument.

I’m not sure if we are discussing 2 different things (??). My point was that they offer the USB 3.1 speed for the iPhone pro because that is what is used for (semi) pro style video by many people. The standard iPhone is generally not, so why offer it? Anyway, that was my point.

Jobs didn't care about what he said or who he said it to and he was in salesman mode , trying to get people to believe his vision, not just Apple's.

You now have smart, but awkward socially, engineers and finance people running things, none of who want to become a meme like Ballmer or even Jobs, and a very guarded corporate culture where everything is so much bigger corporately and unable to want or need to try and sell people on Apple's vision. So rehearsed and polished recorded presentations it is.

Takes a lot of the personality and character out of the company and the products, but, does anyone really care except those old enough to appreciate the past ones?

Actually, I disagree with this. Do you work at Apple to have "inside knowledge" of any of this, or is it just another random opinion?

I don't work for Apple so all I can offer is my own opinion..... but I've followed Apple products a long time now. I think the difference here was; Jobs *was* the source of Apple's vision. He'd literally dream up ideas and then demand his engineers build them. When they didn't quite meet his standards, he'd throw the prototypes back at them and make them do them over -- sometimes hundreds of times. So sure, he was a "salesman" for the company, wanting everyone to believe in the vision. It belonged to him.

I think what you see today is almost inevitable when the founder of a company is gone. Nobody who simply takes over the established business has the same vision or enthusiasm about what's being built there. They just delegate it out to others to make "our next new thing", and worry more about the financials.

USB controllers take up space. Space not worth the distinction when normal people don’t use the cable for anything but charging.

I’d love if they included it in the die, but the year they gave fast USB C to the higher end models they showed the controller on the die shot.
This is a good point. This area is one where I do believe there could be some criticism, especially for the iPP M4 and the iPhone 17 Pro series not being TB3 or 4, or at least full USB4, but, these are small chips and this is a good argument as to why they do not have faster transfer speeds.

Maybe I’m not understanding you properly, the iPP M4 does full TB3 and USB 4?

The iPhone 16 pro, however, is USB 3 at 10GB/s.

Apples anticompetitive practices and vendor lock in are strong incentives to stick with iPhone. Even the need to re-buy your apps for example.
Ultimately that comes down to the app company. Plenty of companies allow a licence across different devices. Microsoft for example.

True and it is more common than ever before. The Affinity suite is now like that - buy once run on any platform. But the prior version of Affinity, you had to buy the app for each platform.

Exactly. Previously with the once off purchase, it could be argued, but now with everything going subscription there is no reason. Even those once of purchases can be ported over if the gave a damn about their customers. But people will still blame Apple for that darned Walled Garden (somehow)

I don’t blame Apple for their walled garden, they don’t force anyone to use it. I try my best to not allow Apple to build their walls too high around me that I can’t get out if I want to.

Good move. I’m in pretty deep 😂. I bought a HP laptop earlier in the year for legacy reasons. At least the Office stuffed worked well, and the cross platform stuff seems fine, but OMG, windows is messed up.
