The iPhone Air is one of those devices that I think is going to appeal to a very small niche market but that market will probably be very loyal to that iPhone.

If Apple prices it right and doesn’t over produce it could become a desirable hit.

I guess we’ll see.

TBH I really feel that this device will do well for the younger peeps who will see this as a trendy “cool new look” iPhone that will come in a friendly price .For me who is an older dude who relies on GPS to see my clients I will have to stick to the bigger battery life that the fat iPhones have to offer.

Love the idea of an ultra-thin iPhone, but it looks like the battery tech just isn't up to the task of what people want from their iPhones in the course of a day.

The way I see it, the idea might be more to have a slim phone for an evening out or whatever, but then you slap on a (hopefully well designed) case which bulks it up if you've got a long day of heavier usage to get through. I personally don't think it's the worst idea in the world.

A lot of people crapping on the idea here, but the fact is you know they're gonna keep making thicker phones with maxed out batteries as they have for many years now. This (if rumors are true) would just be an option for people who skew toward lighter usage. Wouldn't take away from your purchasing options ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Hmm a surprisingly sound take... 😊👍🏼

“Thin again”? This is the first time they attempt to get it as thin, as the thinnest model so far has been iPhone 6 at 6.9 mm. Once again, Apple seem to be going for a form over function, designing a fashion object, rather than a useful tool. And they were not aware of it while designing and testing this thing?
Form is function. Using a thin and light device is much more comfortable. I find myself using my iPad Pro M4 more frequently because of how great it feels compared to the M1.

man, this thread is enlightening in a way that’s making me feel…kinda dumb. no wonder the mini failed; no wonder big iPhones became the default—it’s not even about screen size, it’s about battery. having to charge a phone even once throughout the day is an inconvenience for the generation that grew up on smartphones (i.e., Apple’s most ostensibly-valuable demographic). they would rather have something unwieldy (especially when so much content is consumed on these screens) than something with non-all-day battery life.

will be interesting to see if the Air goes the way of the mini for this exact reason. a battery case being the best stopgap seems kinda…DOA-ish.

They shouldn't launch this without silicon carbon batteries being available in quantities Apple needs. My Oppo phone is already using silicon carbon for instance

Says a lot about Apple of today.
Nahh, assuming it sells in quantities that Apple can source a better battery for, Apple will just release another iPhone Air next year with significantly better battery life.

That's Apple's MO, and why you never ever buy a first gen Apple product.

It’s interesting that Apple will go to this much effort to make “the thinnest iPhone”. I can’t recall anyone saying they want a super thin iPhone, but have heard plenty of calls to get rid of the camera bump with a bigger battery. I’d say they know what they’re doing but lately that’s not necessarily true.
It’s not about what people say, it’s about what people like. Many people in tech forums (and obviously, to some extent, in real life) want a bigger battery — but I’m pretty sure few of them would be happy with a phone as thick as the camera bump. There are many such cases with mainstream tech ideas.

They will probably market that redesigned new battery pack as an advantage starting at only 149€ 😅

"This… is iPhone 17 Air. It’s not just thin — it’s INCREDIBLE thin. So thin, we redefined what a battery isn’t. And for those rare, magical moments when you want your phone to actually stay on — we created ApplePowercharge. It snaps on like a dream and charges like a whisper. Starting at just 149€. Because innovation shouldn’t last all day"

I want a super thin iphone

Without a camera bump

So, the first iPhone with an instantly user-replaceable battery, if they are constructing it in a decent way. Interesting approach...

Adding a thin additional battery turns it into a "normal" iPhone, removing it makes it the thinnest available iPhone.

Why not...

Maybe I’m an outlier, but the battery life doesn’t really bother me…

I have an iPhone 16 Pro, and I have a wireless charger in my car and a 3-in-1 wireless charger on my desk (iPhone, Apple Watch, AirPods). I’m never wanting for a charge throughout the day.

I can’t think of a time when I’ve ever been under 15%, let alone 10% with the phone by bedtime on a normal work week or weekend. 🤷🏽‍♂️

And my battery health is just fine with this usage. So I just don’t get the hysteria…

would be perfect if they sold add on for the 17 air that included wide and telephoto lenses as well. Then we could have the power of the pros but in the air, finally.
