Make the phone stupidly thin to claim “courage” but make battery life terrible so they can double dip on a battery case. Sounds about right for Apple and Tim “penny pincher” cook.

Hey, even though Apple is losing customers left and right, as long as he pleases the stakeholders! Can only do that for so long before you face the reality that you have not enough customers AND you’re not making profits for stakeholders. Timmy probably has it all planned out by the time that happens, he’ll be heading out the door and it won’t be his (BIG) problem

lol this is crazy making a battery case for a super thin phone so it lasts all day yet makes it thick again 🤣

There it is. Again, never know with the consumers, especially the hardcore fans. I'm good for now with my 16 Pro Max. Keep it moving.
I’m very satisfied with mine, the performance, including battery life, has been excellent.

Hmm, this doesn’t sound good. It may not have as good battery life as the standard sized phones I assume then.

Esim only! I love it. I have stopped using Physical SIMs completely & love the experience. I can't wait for this to go global

The mini was killed because few bought it.

Small iPhones are like wagons from car makers - people insist they would buy one if it existed, occasionally a manufacturer takes a chance, and all those people suddenly have 12 reasons it doesn’t count and isn’t good enough.
So? That makes no sense since they’re already expecting no one to buy this 17 Air.

I never ever met anyone with a Mini. It makes 100% sense to never release a Mini anymore.
I had a 12 mini, and still have a 13 mini that I use as a work phone. My spouse had a 12 mini and upgraded to the 13 mini, as well. I had several friends who bought either the 12 mini or 13 mini and loved them, too. For a while, almost everyone I knew had a mini when they were current or only one-year-behind models.

It’s a great phone that was only flawed by not getting a telephoto lens instead of the ultrawide.

The way I see it, the idea might be more to have a slim phone for an evening out or whatever, but then you slap on a (hopefully well designed) case which bulks it up if you've got a long day of heavier usage to get through. I personally don't think it's the worst idea in the world.

A lot of people crapping on the idea here, but the fact is you know they're gonna keep making thicker phones with maxed out batteries as they have for many years now. This (if rumors are true) would just be an option for people who skew toward lighter usage. Wouldn't take away from your purchasing options ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Agreed -- the idea of this *sounds* amusing, but it could work. What I'm envisioning is something that with the battery pack is about normal phone thickness (with case), but the battery pack easily pops off when not needed.

I'm not sure if I'm getting this or not, but I'm intrigued.

In internal testing, Apple determined that the percentage of users who will be able to use the iPhone 17 Air for a full day without needing to recharge the device throughout the day will be between 60% and 70%
In what world is this acceptable. SMH time for a new team over there.

Not surprising that the 17 Air’s battery would suck, but the idea of a battery case sounds cool, but then again, defeats the purpose of the 17 Air
This battery pack idea is taking me back to the days of my Nokia, which had a thin battery (removable), but also an analogue radio attachment (they removed the backward radio stuffs to make the phone thinner), so if you wanted/needed to access older network with far more coverage, your phone, with analogue pack in between the battery and the main phone, left you with one chunky device, almost as thick as it was wide.

It was cool at the time, for having a smaller phone when in town.

The sacrifice of camera, speakers and battery for the thin form factor would mean an overall poorer user experience just for the sake of being thin. Then if you mitigate by buying this battery case, well why not just buy the standard model and have the extra camera, speaker etc

And those MagSafe battery packs were awesome for people on the go all the time. I really miss them

Love the idea of an ultra-thin iPhone, but it looks like the battery tech just isn't up to the task of what people want from their iPhones in the course of a day.

They could easily pack more battery by using recent tech which are already used by many brands, but no. Gotta cut the costs as much as possible

I can see some users of the 17 Air sometimes using a MagSafe battery but not a battery case. I can't really see 17 Air users using a case at all. Most people use cases (many also don't) but the whole point of the 17 Air is to show off how thin it is. If you didn't want to show that off then why get such a thin phone at all? I suspect most that buy a 17 Air will simply make a point of charging whenever they can so they don't need any extra battery when out showing it off.

Unless you personally weigh 50kg who cares about the weight of something in your pocket that might tip you sideways? Processing power is now irrelevant, too, because it's beyond amazing already and nobody is editing video on their phone. It's just BATTERY LIFE, Stupid.

People got scared off by reviewers about the battery life. They always exaggerate for the clicks/views. In my experience, it easily lasts the whole day of heavy usage while traveling (so lots of camera and Maps/GPS usage)

This.

Once all the hardcore users said how abyssmal the mini battery life is, it was dead to the crowd that uses their phone all the time..

Still love my mini, still would love for it to come back...

How bad is bad? I'm still interested. I will mostly likely buy whichever iPhone 17 is lightest, either the 17 or the 17 Air.
