Make the phone stupidly thin to claim “courage” but make battery life terrible so they can double dip on a battery case. Sounds about right for Apple and Tim “penny pincher” cook.
I’m very satisfied with mine, the performance, including battery life, has been excellent. There it is. Again, never know with the consumers, especially the hardcore fans. I'm good for now with my 16 Pro Max. Keep it moving.
Came here to say this. The mini sold something like 12% of market share in 2021, and everyone screamed that it didn’t move enough volume to justify continuing. But somehow, they already know this 17 Air will only make up 10% of sales and it was greenlit anyway. So the Mini was killed for this? Seriously?
So? That makes no sense since they’re already expecting no one to buy this 17 Air.The mini was killed because few bought it.
Small iPhones are like wagons from car makers - people insist they would buy one if it existed, occasionally a manufacturer takes a chance, and all those people suddenly have 12 reasons it doesn’t count and isn’t good enough.
I had a 12 mini, and still have a 13 mini that I use as a work phone. My spouse had a 12 mini and upgraded to the 13 mini, as well. I had several friends who bought either the 12 mini or 13 mini and loved them, too. For a while, almost everyone I knew had a mini when they were current or only one-year-behind models.I never ever met anyone with a Mini. It makes 100% sense to never release a Mini anymore.
Agreed -- the idea of this *sounds* amusing, but it could work. What I'm envisioning is something that with the battery pack is about normal phone thickness (with case), but the battery pack easily pops off when not needed. The way I see it, the idea might be more to have a slim phone for an evening out or whatever, but then you slap on a (hopefully well designed) case which bulks it up if you've got a long day of heavier usage to get through. I personally don't think it's the worst idea in the world.
A lot of people crapping on the idea here, but the fact is you know they're gonna keep making thicker phones with maxed out batteries as they have for many years now. This (if rumors are true) would just be an option for people who skew toward lighter usage. Wouldn't take away from your purchasing options ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
In what world is this acceptable. SMH time for a new team over there. In internal testing, Apple determined that the percentage of users who will be able to use the iPhone 17 Air for a full day without needing to recharge the device throughout the day will be between 60% and 70%
This battery pack idea is taking me back to the days of my Nokia, which had a thin battery (removable), but also an analogue radio attachment (they removed the backward radio stuffs to make the phone thinner), so if you wanted/needed to access older network with far more coverage, your phone, with analogue pack in between the battery and the main phone, left you with one chunky device, almost as thick as it was wide. Not surprising that the 17 Air’s battery would suck, but the idea of a battery case sounds cool, but then again, defeats the purpose of the 17 Air
They could easily pack more battery by using recent tech which are already used by many brands, but no. Gotta cut the costs as much as possibleLove the idea of an ultra-thin iPhone, but it looks like the battery tech just isn't up to the task of what people want from their iPhones in the course of a day.

That case would probably make the iPhone 17 Air thicker and heavier than the regular iPhone 17, defeating the purpose of the iPhone 17 Air. That's some typical Tim Cook-style incompetence. To mitigate this problem, the report said that Apple is planning to release a battery case as an optional accessory for the iPhone 17 Air.
This.
Once all the hardcore users said how abyssmal the mini battery life is, it was dead to the crowd that uses their phone all the time..
Still love my mini, still would love for it to come back...
