That thinness at that size looks like it would be kinda awkward to hold. I assume most people will be putting it in a case though, so maybe not a big deal.

It's a tragic loss in comedic potential that the image under "Here's What Apple's Thinnest iPhone Ever Will Look Like" doesn't show an iPhone 17 Air bent in half.

I just don’t see who their target consumer is with this. It’s not a “mini” and it’s not a “plus” and it occupies a bizarre area in the lineup. Maybe it sells well but worse battery life is gonna be a killer for a whole lot of folks.

That would be me and likely many thousands of others tired of the thickness and weight of a ProMax iPhone.

For me, as a photographer, I keep my 16PM in my shirt pocket, ready to quickly make a photograph of something interesting I see on the street. With a silicon case over a thick phone it's frustrating quickly getting it out of my pocket and putting it back in.

Regarding battery life... it will have Apple's new modem chip and an upgraded A cpu. For a given clock rate, that will result in less power consumption which will likely make up for a smaller battery.

The camera bump? Makes no difference to me. For many that's just a cudgel to taking yet another swing at Apple,

I'm looking forward to credible reviews rather than reflexively assuming the 17 Air will be awful (like most people on tech forums with respect to every new product Apple releases).

What is the point of this huge camera bump when the lens itself is still sticking out like wtf. At least on Pixel, it's flush with the bump

It's a good question ... I think the answer is:

I and a lot of other people are around chargers literally 24/7. I am no further than 5 feet from a charger, 24/7. Not to mention this is all a rumor and apple will likely shock us with a new battery type or some other technology. Apple has well poisoned before spreading outregous rumors about problems in the next model only for it to be complete nonsense. (The price of the Ultra was a good example) or rumors of the price rising for the mini/air only for it to be lower.

I don't want a small screen, I want a thin and light phone with a big screen. A lot of people hate small screens but don't want to carry a rock in their pocket (which is what the current iPhone is)

This is a mockup from a fan/random person and not the official design...

I am, I have zero interest in a phone with a small screen (and why I never I owned an iPhone until the 6+ came out).

Why on earth would you use a case on a beautiful phone or thin phone. The point of it is to be thin. I would never.

Again this isnt the official design it a mockup from fans/whatever based on leaked specs / info.

When was the last time a render or a mockup based on a leaked render wasn’t completely accurate?

Last year. As always.

Not even mockups, but dummy models: https://www.macrumors.com/2024/04/29/iphone-16-lineup-dummies/

Color and texture is not accurate, the camera bump has plastic reflections, camera rings are wrong… details, but overall they have a big impact on the final result. And in that case, with an almost identical design for pro models compared to 2023, unlike this year’s.

Renders are even worse: https://www.digit.in/news/mobile-ph...ook-at-2019-iphone-xi-renders-45655.html/amp/

That might match the CAD, but it looks nothing like the final iPhone 11 Pro. When it comes to the iPhone 17 Pro, there are things that can make a big difference: the color of the glass area compared to the aluminum part, placement of the logo… also, most renders don’t take into account that there won’t be any joint between the frame and the back anymore, it will be a continuous surface. I think it will feel quite different in hand compared to previous models.

Oh no, people want something new. Let’s change something even though it looks ugly. They will regret and Next time will not ask for a change xD

? 😄 That’s literally 99% what the released iPhones looked like. Leaks and renders and mockups are very accurate lately.

I would be pretty happy with an iPhone that is a uniform thickness.

Does it seem likely that the thickest part of the phone (i.e. camera bump) could be made “thinner” if the rest of the phone was made as thick as the camera ‘needs’ to be?

The Galaxy Edge (Samsung's Air equivalent) outsold the Galaxy Plus in Western Europe. If the Air is more successful than the Plus was, then that's already a win in Apple's book.

I agree.

But I also thought the mini would sell like hotcakes so I’m probably not the best Apple guesser. 🤷‍♂️

We’ll see if it goes anywhere.

Has the iPhone 17 range been designed by Apple Intelligence? There is not one of the leaked models that tempt me, they are all unfortunate looking.

Almost as nice as the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. But cheaper looking with one less camera and the uncertainty of iOS 26. Only time will tell if the premium price it's likely to saddled with makes this a popular iPhone.

Anyone else just getting (even more) hacked off with Apple's obsession with thinness?
In the overall picture, no.

It’s the right call in the long run.

But just the same, I’m probably not buying this.

That having been said, in 5 years this will be a fat phone. To get there you’ve got to go through here.

You think Samsung will know how to lead the product category? 😂 If Android makers were unchallenged to fight for every millimeter and every gram the smartphone would be the car Homer Simpson designed.

I love the Apple/Google collab, creating this unique iPixel ;)

Joke aside, I like the design, way more appealing than the spider eyes multiple camera lenses.

Will be interested to see how comfortable it is to hold size dimensions/weight balance distribution wise.

Surprised to see so much negativity with this render. Certainly subjective, but I love the way it looks. This is my most highly anticipated iPhone in years, probably since they added ProMotion. I’m happy to sacrifice battery life for a sleek design, I’m at home nearly all day anyway (100% WFH), and I have no use for the extra cameras that will be on the pro model, so for me the trade offs are definitely worth it. Let’s see how the reviews shake out!

While most phones in general are put in cases, I suspect most won't put the 17 air in a case.
