The fiddly Camera Control button is the wrong approach. A camera button should serve two basic functions: to rapidly initiate a photo or video, with all other camera adjustments happening on the big beautiful display.

A half-press could allow the user to peek through the lens in preparation for a quick snap (from Home Screen, Lock Screen, or from within another app). A full click would take a photo, and seamlessly the user would find themselves in the Camera app—a single press.

iPhoneOS 1.0 solved the software button/physical button dilemma. A physical camera button, if the iPhone is to have one, should simply be a shortcut button for snapping off a photo and starting a video for convenience and to save a bit of time. Don't complicate the iPhone.

In for one on day 1... likely add something like a Suti back to keep it grippy and to not make it much thicker. of course, some people will put it in a case like this ;)

Can we get magsafe with two pogo pins for direct energy transfer so that matching pogo pin clad magsafe batteries can transfer power directly to the phone instead of relying on induction which is slow, creates heat and loses a lot of energy? Thank you

No they are making a new iPhone because the Plus model was a failure, and they are cutting back on components to boost profit margins. It is 2025, a phone costing nearly a grand or a grand with one speaker is a bit of a joke, even if it is Apple.

And yet I bought one the last two years. I think the Plus just needed a 120hz refresh rate and maybe another "bonus" feature over the regular phone, and it would have been a hit. For me, it's almost the perfect phone because I want as much screen as possible.

For me it's a meh design. The only thing that's intriguing is the battery capacity/heat issues in such a thin iPhone.

the “thickness” of the current phones is the least problematic thing about their size. This model solves a problem nobody has.
It might solve the weight problem while keeping a larger screen if it's noticeably lighter than the iPhone 16 Plus. I am considering of getting one for my mom who has poor eyesight and arthritis in her wrists. She also uses only the main camera lens despite having the iPhone 14 Pro Max. My main concern is the single-speaker, which might be a significant downgrade as she uses it a lot for YouTube.

I agree with you there. But in Apple terms if it doesn’t sell tens of millions every quarter it’s a failure like the iPhone Mini. Sad but true, I don’t know about this Air, I will take a look at it, but if it does have 1 speaker and the camera is not as good as the standard iPhones I will look at other models possibly. Depends on how comfortable it is to use I guess too? But the Plus 16 could be tempting.

What is amazing is that some humans waste their time watching such meaningless clickbait. Of course one can bend a smartphone! It is a bad idea however. Also recommended not to throw your ceramic coffee cups against a concrete wall...

Personally I do not watch silly clickbait videos of morons throwing coffee cups at walls or bending smartphones.
Regrettably those “morons” make good money doing that stuff, especially when there’s a potential “-gate” to stir the pot with. Remember antenna-gate and previous bend-gates. There’s money to be made making Apple look bad. And don't forget all the drop tests that destroy a perfectly good device fro no good reason other than making a few bucks on YouTube.

12GB of RAM? Why am I thinking that Apple Intelligence is never going to work as advertised on my iPhone 16 Pro Max? Has Apple learned that their LLM needs more RAM to run locally on the phone?

I wonder if this sits on a table without rocking. That would at least be something. But I wouldn't be surprised if the lens itself protrudes just enough for an irritating wobble.

How much extra space for a larger battery do you really get by not including the Ultra Wide camera? Smartphone camera assemblies aren't huge.

The next generation version of the iPhone Air will probably be amazing, but this one is rumored to have a tad too many compromises...
Thinking the same. One speaker, no mention of always on display, are both deal breakers for me personally. At the end of the day, I may end up with another Pro Max, or maybe keep my 15 Pro Max, and get an android flagship to run for a while.

And the case + phone weight would be comparable to a pro iPhone with a generic silicon case, defeating the point of iPhone air in the first place.

The iPhone 17 “Air” is a bunch of B.S. It exists to drive people to the Pro Max. For example, I don’t like the iPhone 16. The screen is too narrow. So, I prefer the 16 Plus. The screen is both taller and wider, and it has the same camera set up as the 16. With the iPhone 17, it’s the same problem. But wait, there is no 17 Plus any more. I can get the taller wider screen with the 17 Air, but Apple has gimped the camera on it to less than the iPhone 17. Oh, you want the taller wider screen and a better camera set up? Well then now you have to buy the Pro Max. Apple greed at it’s finest. Thanks Tim Apple.

It surely won’t have a single speaker? Going back to non stereo audio would be terrible. Or is it likely that the bottom speaker near usb usb port is removed and a second speaker like the earpiece speaker would be also located at the bottom of the screen?
