Get pumped, everybody, for the tutti-frutti, phoney-baloney, plastic banana, good time, rock-in-roll Apple PR hype machine is ramping up. Get ready for the flood of stories of "last minute" decisions and "just added" features.

The reality is the iPhone 17 Air design was locked-in last year. Apple is currently in the latter stages for the iPhone 18.

If you do the math for the thickness, you end up at 144 g (starting with the Plus’ 199 g). The 13 mini is 141 g. Of course, we don’t know if or how the density changes.
Wonder how much the camera bump impacts your weight estimates. Also wondering how it will impact balance and CG.

The camera tumor on top of the butte is really stupid looking. They should do like Pixel, make the camera flush with the butte.

I'm in. If only for the novelty of a different form factor. Who cares about worse cameras, 99.99% of pics taken never get looked at again, anyway!

Even at 6.6" it was already firmly in plus territory, remember the original XS Max was 'only' 6.5"! With the 17 and 17 Pro going to 6.3", we're at the point where even the smaller size variants are creeping towards what was considered huge less than 10 years ago.
Agreed, I think 6.3” would have probably been okay too for this phone. The current plus models though are a bit unwieldy. I wonder if the thinness will make it better or worse.

Hopefully it’s not top-heavy with that new camera bar, they really need to balance the weight well if it’s going to be that big.

This is how they track leaks. Different people are getting fed different specifications. It’s a minor enough detail but it’s enough to identify and send the ninjas after them

Apple are in danger of creating a confusing matrix of multiple product variants like they’ve done with the iPad.

and if you don't want it to shatter or bend you''ll need a solid case on it... making it just as thick as the pro phones

Now let’s. Not exaggerate too much here. Even with a case, it’ll be noticeably thinna than a cased up pro iPhone

Side note: for my white titanium iPhone 16 PM I have a Spigen core armor no MagSafe and a wave case (from UK, earth friendly) no MagSafe, both black. I highly recommend both.

5.64mm would mean an iPhone that is 27.5% thinner and (potentially)
lighter than the iPhone 16 Plus.

27.5% lighter than the iPhone 16 Plus would be 144 grams.

It might turn out that, at least to some extent, the lower weight of the iPhone 17 Air might result in somewhat less damage when dropped, since less mass will translate to less force of impact when it hits the ground, especially when it hits a hard surface like concrete or tile.

For people who want to maintain the light weight of the Air, while still getting some protection from drops, scratches, and maybe even some bending, there are minimalist aramid fiber (Kevlar) cases that barely feel like you've got anything on the phone. They don't provide the same protection as a case with a bumper around the perimeter, but they still protect the phone from many drops.

Looks like it will be having a screen size very similar to the 16 Plus and still have similar battery life due to the C1 chip. Expecting it to be a very nice iPhone. Waiting to hear more rumors about the device in the coming months.

Hopefully. I don’t want to use a tiny 6.1” phone.

6.7” is the minimum for me.

I don't think Prosser was completely wrong about the watch. At Apple, the way design work is supposedly that departments don't know exactly what they're working on. What Jon thought was Series 7 was probably some stage of Watch Ultra work. Maybe he got that assurance, or maybe he filled in the gaps himself, but missed the mark. Maybe it was even supposed to be Series 7, but the concept changed. Apple Car also changed, and eventually died (hopefully).

So we'll have the iPhone(n)e, iPhone(n), iPhone(n) Plus, iPhone(n) Air, iPhone(n) Pro, iPhone(n) Pro Max. Maybe iPhone(n) Fold in the future. Why not just iPhone Mini, iPhone, iPhone Max? Would be so much easier.

iPhone Air might also have bad battery due to less space.

I just want a light phone. That's all. I am a 13 mini user. I won't cry about the fact that they discontinued it. Honestly the iPhone X form factor was perfect for me, 5.8 was good. But what gets me more than anything is the weight on these things. My 13 mini with an apple leather case on it is as heavy as I will get. If it's actually "air" and light. Consider me sold. Not so sure though with a nice massive camera bar and a whopping 6.7.

We are the same. I don't mind a large display, would actually prefer a larger device because that means truly all day battery. I want light, pro motion, and MagSafe. Honestly, the form factor the of new SE with a single camera is more what I was hoping for, but want it to retain the features I formerly mentioned.
