yeah, look at these peasants without lots of additional gear to make the phone lasts a decent amount of time without charging.
Extra stuff like their charging bricks and cables? If you have a carry on bag, you have space for a small power bank, and its not like a 10k MagSafe powerbank is expensive.

If a large battery is your priority, then get a different phone.

Not to mention that such a move would have put pressure on Apple to actually develop Lightning further which in its turn would probably have resulted in a connector that is much larger than the Lightning that we know so it could accommodate the massive power and data requirements that USB-C supports today.
…a bit like, you know, USB-C… which Apple had a major hand in designing and promoting.

Apple have shared connector designs - such as MiniDisplayPort - in the past (as well as collaborating on USB and Thunderbolt). Nothing about making a proprietary Lightning 2 connector would have made sense, the only mystery is why they took so long to switch iDevices to USB-C (probably a mixture of milking the last drop out of MFi and briar-patching so the EU got the blame for you having to buy a new alarm clock phone stand).

I suspect the folding iPhonebook will be two 17 Airs.
That would mean it would be about 2mm thicker closed than the current Oppo Find. Apple will probably escape any criticism bc the Oppo is only in the Chinese market but it does feel like Apple will forever play catch up to the Chinese now. Their current phone hardware is kinda insane.

I think you are actually making my point for me haha. Outlets/chargers are everywhere. Hell even ubers! Generally the places where I don't have access to power, I am not on my phone. It's like people complaining about the apple watch battery life. Can you not throw it on a charger either when you sleep or if you sleep track when you first wake up?
Oh c'mon....we all want our phones to last all day long from normal use without having to stop and pull out cables and look to find an outlet or charging source. This is a fundamental feature for any phone.

USB-C is nice but flimsy in my experience, I always preferred the lightning connector, thinner, more secure and foolproof, they should have stuck with it, way easier to accommodate on a this design, 'F' the EU
Having tried both for mor than 7 years at the same time, never happened that the USB C had false contact which happens a lot with the lightning. The connectors on the lightning cable are exposed to weather. USB C is the best change on iphone. Now I really need only obe connector. Now my ipad, iphone and airpods charge with one … apple need to invent something for the watch

Yeah, putting it on the charger when I shower and when I’m getting ready for work in the morning is plenty to keep it charged. I got a series 10 in January, and I’ve never gotten a lot battery notification. I’m not even intentionally doing that to charge it, I just don’t want to wear it when I’m showering or getting dressed.

Because you end up with a lump which doesn't charge as quickly or efficiently, never mind data transfer.

What do you mean a lump? I exclusively charge my 15 pro wirelessly and battery health is currently 88% with 560 cycles.

Data transfer via a cable with your phone, that is very niche.

I think the most realistic real world issue it would create are people without wireless carplay.

Almost exclusively wireless charging on my 15 Pro and I am at 94% health for 424 cycles.

Who asked for this?

I really think this is going to be a case where the internet is wrong. It's going to be one of their top selling devices in the new lineup, mainly because it is different.

I'll call it the reverse iphone mini. The internet would have led you to believe it was the end game of all phones and would be sold out everywhere. Reality, it got cut because it only sold to the loud minority. I think we are seeing the loud minority online confused about this phone, but it might sell better than them all.

Only time will tell, but I see a very big difference between online and anyone in real life that even knows about the phone.
