Most exciting thing about the Air is that these mock ups have the Camera Control button on them. And they look nice and thin so light and hopefully a LOT more comfortable to use.

At this point, this is basically an iPad Mini 17. It is thin, but so large. Is the phone meant to be carried by those alien-human hybrids with green blood from X-Files?

Looking at my old iPhone 4 and 5 I feel so nostalgic for the days when thin meant small and thin

Being that thin and with the flat sides and sharp edges I can't see how it will be comfortable to hold.

Has Apple perhaps forgotten that as much as they think they need to keep redesigning the iPhone, the one thing that is never going to change is the average size of our hands.

Think they'll ever bring back the mini range?

Anyone else having trouble keeping track of all the different iPhones, past, present, and future? When I first read the headline I could have sworn this phone was already out. Maybe it’s because we are flooded with articles on all the different models day in and day out, or maybe there are just too many in the current product line, but I miss the days when Apple only had one or two products in each segment.

That's kind of what Jobs went on about when they begged him to come back in the 90's, the time when Apple was almost bankrupt and down to ~$3/share. They had way too many silly 'things' on the menu.

I can't wait to see the millions who buy this and then buy a 30 cm thick protective case to go with it.

Looks good. No doubt it will be a great iPhone. However if it is going to have only a single camera it is going to be a disappointment.

I would rather have extra battery than thin.
I still have a Nokia from 1996, the one which has a credit card sized sim, and interchangeable battery packs, the 'maxi pack' comprises of 6x AA NiCd batteries. This lasted several days, but only because you were doing exactly 2 things with the phone; calling and text on a simple LCD display, and on 2G.

I’m pretty sure the Air is a key step and Apple’s first move toward making the foldable happen.

If this ends up being successful and does not bomb, then I don't know anything.

I would rather have a small phone. A mini. I know it's not a seller, but how much can it be costing them? Just have it as an option.

I feel like the iPhone as a product has hit the ceiling. It's got the power to run a desktop OS with desktop level productivity software, but they can't take it there because then they'll cannibalise Mac sales. So what else do they do? It does all the mobile basics.

Look... can I have a three year old phone that can have battery last a day? I don't know what problem a thin phone is solving... but I can certainly make some keen guesses on what frustrating usability issues it will introduce.
Good point, though I love the idea of a thin phone the battery must not just last long enough on day 1... The device as a whole should last many years and should be serviceable. Maybe they truly innovated on some fronts here, or maybe it's just a gimmick.

I think they will eventually. Everything usually goes in cycles. The past few years a lot of people have moved to big phones but many of us, myself included for example, got tired of carrying around big heavy phones and have down sized.

Apple is just doing this because they feel like they need a new fresh look OR they’re doing this for a reason for all future iPhones and future products. And also to see how far they can push the technology by making it thinner and what can that technology become besides being thinner.

if you read the reports lately, it sounds like 2026 or 2027 will be the biggest change for Apple. Like the foldable iPhone as the thinnest foldable phone on the market.

I know this sounds ridiculous, but the lightning port is smaller than the USB Type C in dimension. That’s another thing Apple has discussed before in the past about the different sizes of the ports. Where with the lightning you can go a little bit smaller and thinner for a phone than you can with the USB type C.

but also, they wanna have it where it’s port free. So the only way you’re going to charge your phone is wirelessly. No charging ports. Again 2027 is supposed to be really big for Apple.

I assure you that Apple has spent millions on market research. The opinion of a few Internet wags that think Apple makes their iPhones wrong really does not matter.

People hoping the Air doesn’t sell are probably the same marketing geniuses who think Apple should sell a mini model that only a tiny fraction of the market cares about. The iPhone 6 (best selling iPhone ever iirc) was 6.9mm thick, the iPhone 17 pro is supposedly 8.75mm thick and probably weighs almost twice as much. I have a 16 PM and I like it but not the thickness and weight.

If you need more battery on your phone you can add a MagSafe battery pack (or multiple ones if you’re really into carrying extra weight) but you can’t ever take away built-in battery bloat and weight. The only thing the Air is missing is a good overall design, hopefully the anniversary model will revert to the X model’s profile and do something about the cringe camera bar and isn’t just the foldable.

With a case that's almost as thick as the camera bump, it will fine. You don't want your status symbol to get scratched, do you? After all, you'll have to trade it in for the next status symbol next year.
That's why you should put your €800 device in a cheap plastic cover.

/s
If people are going to add a case to bring the thickness up to the level of the camera bump, why not make the phone that thick in the first place, eliminate the camera bump, and fill the space with more battery capacity? smh

I really don't know about that. I've used a Pro with multiple cameras for years and I think I could get by with 1 good camera. It's going to come down to the display, and the battery.

does anyone actually care? The current iphone is already thin enough. In fact id rather they add a bit of thickness and increase the battery capacity.
You do know that the rumors (and the video that this entire thread is about) indicate there would be other phones available, right? You don't want a thin phone, you aren't forced into buying a thin phone. Choose a different model.

I simply won’t be content until I can put a massive Otterbox case with an extended battery on it and still manage to lose it into the gap between my driver’s seat and the center console of my car.
Those gaps are MAGNETS for phones, glasses and keys. How do car manufacturers do it?

I don't want thinner. I want more battery.
I don't want more battery. I want something that's actually designed to be held in the hand. Apple seems incapable of doing that, so the least they can do is make as thin as possible so that when put in a case it doesn't add so much bulk.
