I have to use cheap Samsung as my main phone because new flagship iPhones or AMOLED Samsungs give me eye strain and headache. For sure I am saving a lot of money while not buying all this crap but I kinda want my pages load faster. Apple is really missing on those "10%" of people who are PWM and dithering sensitive

Have you ever thought that Apple could introduce new "Pro" features that remain exclusive to the Pro line for another few years?

Apple will always add new Pro features to add value to the overarching prosumer experience. That doesn’t mean features labelled for Pros (PROmotioin) should be given to the cheap budget iPhones.

It seems the non pro models are getting the most updates. Fingers crossed the pro models get the hole punch design & more pro features (excluding updates to the camera not all pro users are photographers).

I ‘member when the Nokia Lumia had them 12 years ago and it was a big deal then and super nifty.

Can we got ProMotion Studio Display please.
This may happen in the next couple of years or so given that Thunderbolt 5 is beginning to come out on consumer electronics devices. There aren’t many TB5 devices yet, but within a couple of years they should become ubiquitous. TB5 has double the bandwidth of TB4 (80GB/s versus 40GB/s). This will mean there would be no more compromises such as we see on the Pro Display XDR where the USB-C ports are crippled to USB 2.0 speeds.

So another year on 12 mini…
Wait SE4 should come out in early 2025, so it will get AOD and higher refresh rate before main iPhone lineup? Wild.
I won’t be able to wait til 2025 September! My iPhone 12 barely is functional. It over heats and get battery issues.

Don't be silly, just because it has the word "Pro" doesn't mean it's for "professionals".
Promotion isn't a "Pro" feature, neither is an Always On Display.

Mid level Android phones have 120Hz displays that are also always on.

So let me understand this, you are against the idea of Apple making things cheaper so more people can gain access to features they previously couldn't? lol....

EDIT: Oh and a standard iPhone isn't "cheap or budget" the article didn't say it was for the new SE range.

Basically - I don't care. What would be interesting is the power consumption of this device.
There are exactly 2 reasons, why I like my current iP15 pro

- Power consumption. I charge this thing to 80% every evening and at night it has between 20% and 50& left. This is awesome!!
- USB-C I waited for this feature and I'm stunned how easily I banned all that Lightning stuff. Now I have one charging cable for everything. Non Apple devices, but also Macbook iPad and Phone - finally.

I don't know about all the other things, at the moment I have the feeling that my next iP will be a non-pro version.

I don’t really care about 120hz or AOD or OLED in a phone, but I would like Promotion’s variable refresh rate for better power efficiency.
Pro motion on the 13 pro was what enticed me to upgrade from the XS and I can't look back. If I'm using a non-Pro Motion phone or my phone goes into low power mode, the drop in refresh rate is very obvious

That being said, OLED is pretty great too.

Gotta admit I never pay any attention to supposed 'rumours' and 'leaks' of devices that are at a least year and a half from release...

I agree, to do so is like relying on the Farmer’s Almanac to predict next year’s weather. And what qualifies as a rumor is questionable too.

always on display ?
another misguided direction from apple executives and designers.
it's high time i find a phone that will work with linux / postmarket OS.
all these lockdowns, restrictions and unwanted features are invasive and outgrowing their place.
who owns what ? is this the phone owning me and decide stuff for me and i have no say in the matters ?
what's next, removing power button there too ? always on iphone ? with siri monitoring my talk and all the sensors monitoring my every move, checking my health, telling what to eat and what to do ?
i don't want an alarm clock, or an AI assistant, or a handheld game system, i want a phone, to place calls.
these devices are starting to become dangerous about all the data they gather on people, including biometrics, health, habits, tastes, thoughts, locations, purchases and so on.
