Man, the phones are so advanced now, that I couldn't care less about these releases. It became a commodity, and should just be prices like one. That one I might subscribe to :D

iPhone 17 is an obsolete topic. Let's see what we won't get in iPhone 18 😂

Now the $699 iPhones are catching up on $299 Androids

(I know that the $299 Androids have many downsides and display fps is just a fraction of the story. However, it just bleeds that a flagship iPhone does not have ProMotion)

Apple will always add new Pro features to add value to the overarching prosumer experience. That doesn’t mean features labelled for Pros (PROmotioin) should be given to the cheap budget iPhones.
I can't tell if you're serious or trolling. If serious you're drunk on Apple's marketing - much of the "Pro" features aren't for "Pros" but simply to distinguish price points and provide reasons for someone to fork over more money. "Pro" features like 120hz and variable refresh haven't been gated behind higher tier models with android for years.

This won't save falling sales in China or people buying older models because newer ones offer nothing worth the price they ask.

They continue to make their cheaper iPhones so basic and stupid compared to the competition that costs half the price.

They need to either stop being cheapskates or drop the base line and go pro models only.

Gemini on Android is only going to make the gap bigger in terms of useful SMART features, nothing Apple AI related is going to come close because we know what Apple is like.

I was hoping this would happen with the iPhone 16 instead. Looks like I'll be hanging onto my iPhone 12 for another year.

Is anyone else getting a bit confused with the numbering system? Is the 17 the 2024 model, or 2025? (I know the answer is in the article.)

Should we move to the year being the identifier?

Anything, literally anything, except for making a model thats smaller and better priced.

This basically confirms that next year the Pro is going to get something new that will take the regular another 3 years to adapt. Wonder what it will be
Yup. It would be good news if phones across the line can get variable refresh at least on the low frequency end, so people get better battery life. Knowing Apple, unless they have some killer new feature to differentiate the pro phone displays, they’ll do something like limit the variable refresh rate to 1-60 Hz.

I really don’t care about ProMotion but if it boosts battery life, that would be nice. Always On? Only if I can turn it off.

This topic is about the standard iPhone 17 and 17 Plus, not ‘cheap budget iPhones’. ProMotion isn’t a Pro feature either, it’s a market standard at price points over £300.

Great to read that in 1,5 year Apple will finally have caught up with the rest of the industry about 5-6 years ago. Also lol @ the SE getting AOD before the mainline iPhone.
Refresh Rate is only one thing, the regular iPhone screen is still top notch. Funny though, the competition is starting to catch up with Dolby Vision, a standard Apple has been supporting for a few generations now, and yes, even in the base model.

Will they seriously maintain a 60Hz screen on the upcoming iPhone 16? It's a scandal at these prices. 120Hz is distinctly more enjoyable.

Another button? Squeezable sides? A wider Dynamic Island?

Possibilities are endless.

I don’t really care about 120hz or AOD or OLED in a phone, but I would like Promotion’s variable refresh rate for better power efficiency.

If the rumor turns out to be true and the 17 and 17 Plus do end up with Pro Motion…

This gives me hope that a future Mini will have it, boosting battery life (hopefully significantly).

I know with a feature like that, I could extend battery life even further..

Currently I get about 2 days out of my 13 Mini
