After almost a week of living with the Pro Max, I’ve pretty much adjusted to the larger size and increased weight. I’ve purposely avoided picking up my old Air (which now belongs to my wife) so as to not compare the two for feel, which the Air will win by a country mile.
I’m really enjoying the PM cameras; I’d forgotten how much fun it is to shoot with the macro in the springtime with all the flowers, butterflies, and bugs doing their thing. After all these months, I’ve also gotten used to the look of the massive plateau, which doesn’t appear nearly as odd as it used to (it’s funny how our brains adjust to new norms). Overall, I wouldn’t say I’m ecstatic, but I’m also not displeased.
On this butter-soft aluminum phone, I’m much more concerned about dents and dings than I was with the titanium Air. The Pitaka Edge was my #1 on the Air, but on this phone my priorities have totally shifted away from feel, to coverage and drop protection. I still want a case that looks good, but exposed metal at the edges is definitely out of the question now.
The only two cases I currently own—after having well over a dozen for the Air—are the Beats Rugged and the TechWoven. I actually prefer the Beats to the TW which, in my opinion, provides only minimal edge protection and not enough lip. The TW feels great in the hand, but I don’t trust it to protect this phone in a hard drop on rocks or concrete. I also like the soft lining in the Beats, which seems easier on the finish than the rough interior of the TW. And finally, the Beats’ grip is perhaps the best I’ve experienced on any case, which in my hand feels just right. I’m overall very happy with it, and I may
just be able to live with only these two and avoid a case shopping spree (I know, I know, but I may prove you wrong… lol).
