Good thing I won’t be buying any Apple product for at least the next 5 years.
What I’ll certainly be buying next is a steam machine.
  • 512GB Model: $1,049
  • 512GB Model + Steam Controller: $1,128
  • 2TB Model: $1,349
  • 2TB Model + Steam Controller: $1,428

I'm thinking (hoping) you could build something yourself far cheaper.

Preowned PS5s are still consistently in the $300-400 range in my area (as one alternative at least).

I don't know when is a good time. Waiting for the 18 Pro with the price hike or getting the 17 Pro with the "current" price it's in before the hike.
Same…. But after calming down a bit, I realized that my 14 pro is beautiful and i would miss it. (These 17pros are so, so ugly)

If upgrading at all, the 18pro max may convince me with that purple/red color.

Most importantly, the $300 increase is just one estimate. Other estimates have put it at $100 increase.

Not knowing the actual increase makes making a decision more difficult, and the worst case scenario in decision making will be getting Apple’s best new iPhone for a few hundred dollars more than i was expecting later this year. (Ignoring the special flip phone)

That gamble is worth taking for me. (I think if the 17pros weren’t so ugly, I’d jump now to 17 pro max probably)

Also, the Air 2 might be an extremely attractive purchase to replace 14pro, and I would hate to have made a decision to get a 17pro out of fear and regret it later.

I think people are going to learn to stretch their devices out even longer now to save money
There's also the fact that most new devices do mostly the same thing as the previous one... but My usual 4 year upgrade cycle went to 5 when i finally went to 17pro max ... and that was reallistically mostly cause the 12 pro had kinda **** battery life to begin with .. with the next few releases kind of drastically increasing it... so with the battery really degraded made more sense to just get something that will last the day instead of just get back to half the days use..

I agree with that. I think I can stomach the 16 Pro Max for now for at least one more year. It just all comes down to the event this September. I was going to get the Air with the bestbuy discount, but I'm not sure if I would still enjoy it after the novelty fades

happy to have a wait-and-see buddy.

The air 2 might be really great with two cameras, or the pro colors might look outstanding in person.

Unfortunately the savings would not be substantial. Indeed the component prices at the moment are insane. I do like the concept and the design ..and gaming on Mac is dead and has always been very dead.
If I cannot get one, I will consider building myself.
