This is, objectively, the worst iPhone Apple has ever designed. Powerful yes, feature packed yes, but in no way is this pretty or attractive. The only reason why Macrumors are chilling them is because they got invited to the event.

My educated guess is that many people who want the pro will switch to the air once they hold one in person.

I am not upgrading this year and will sit tight with my 16 Pro. I can't make sense to replace a perfectly adequate iPhone and will probably be a couple years before I consider upgrading. As of right now my 16 Pro still has 100% battery health so it is sit tight for now. Now my AirPods Pro 2 well that is what I am really interested in as the batteries in those is somewhat concerning as they only last about three hours in noise canceling

Objective means measurable. Battery life, weight, chip speed those are objective. Calling a design objectively the worst makes no sense, because aesthetics are subjective. You can dislike the look, fair enough, but that’s opinion, not fact. Otherwise you’re just dressing up a hot take as truth.

One of the wording use to qualify the camera lenses that is head-scratching to me is "optical-quality". Apple needs to further explain this. When I read this, I process this as this is not hardware optical, but software optical. Previous iPhone specs use the single word "optical". Am I the only one thinking this?

Wish there was a space black option. I’ll go with the blue as it’s going to be the least loud looking with a black leather case from Nomad. So blue iPhone 17PM for me this year. It will be cool to see all the changes from my 13PM. 👍🏻

Yes, using a simple general term like "optical quality" seems redundant for a camera lens, since you already know it needs to transmit visible light. But it's shorthand for "don’t worry, this isn’t just a clear piece of cheap plastic, it’s real lens glass or a high-grade polymer designed to minimize distortion and meet standards used in real photography, and the lens surfaces were molded, ground, and coated to tighter tolerances comparable to camera-grade lenses."

With all due respect. This hands-on (and most of them) look like paid ads. I don’t know why anyone would think this is the biggest update when literally the only new features are a couple of camera gimmicks, that previous iPhones could do already with third party apps, and there is no way that this phones look more premium than titanium iPhones….. hate that everyone seems so scared of losing access to apple products and conferences that everybody just praises. All the “early looks” are worthless, IMO

Ti is a higher end material than aluminum. Hell, the stainless on my 14PM is arguably higher end material as well. Aluminum, however, is cheaper. It also has better thermal properties, so get ready for people to complain about their phone being hot. It won’t be, internally, but it’ll feel hotter because it’ll transmit the heat into your hand better now.

All that being said, I think they look fine. Orange is a welcome addition. I’m gonna use a case so I’m not super worried about the durability of aluminum. The camera upgrades should be nice. The extra RAM will be noticeable. The battery upgrade is needed.

The battery upgrade will be a huge upgrade for me coming from a 14 Pro. I only wish the weight wasn’t identical, but it is what it is.

I just can't stomach for paying more for downgrade from titanium to aluminium for the 17 Pro models in Australia. It is costing around USD150 more than US prices. All because of Tim Apple's greediest to get more money.

Literally, that's not true at all. Find an actual list of the new features to see for yourself. Among other things, there's the vapor chamber to help keep the internals less hot so when the iPhone is being used for heavy-duty tasks, there's a much smaller chance that it will need to throttle down its speed and the display's brightness.

Function over form? That is simply hideous from the back. Even worse with a case on it. I have a pixel 9 pro as well as a 16PM and the camera bar on the pixel is a thing of beauty compared to this. They call it plateau to me it looks like a breakfast in bed tray taken from above or something.

Maybe, or maybe even probably, but we'll see once we actually get these new models in our hands. Aluminum spreads heat about an order of magnitude better than titanium, which means aluminum can pull heat away from hot spots, like the SoC area containing the A19 chip, much faster and distribute it more evenly across the housing. With titanium (and stainless steel too), heat tends to stay more localized to small hot spots, but the rest of the phone feels cooler. If people start calling Apple tech support to ask if there's something wrong with their iPhone 17 Pros being warmer than their 15 or 16 Pros, maybe tech support will take the time to point out that this was a balance to achieve less-hot internal temps that allow the Pro models to perform intensive tasks without having to be throttled down or their display dimmed.

The non-Pro iPhones have been made of aluminum for years, so I wonder how many people have found them to run hotter, without a case, than they like.

Which iPhone has Apple released to date looks uglier than the iphone 17 pro?

The camera bar on the Pixel 9 really does look better than the plateau on the iPhone Pros, though I think it would look even better if it were closer to the top end of the phone, like in the 17 Air, but then I realized that the larger gap between the top edge of the Pixel 9's camera bar and the top end of the Pixel might allow you to grip the Pixel in landscape mode more easily, since the larger gap gives you more space to place your fingers than the thinner gap on the 17 Air, but maybe somewhere inbetween would be the sweet spot.

But the camera hardware inside these phones is what largely dictates the size and location of their respective camera bumps, so the improvements to the iPhone 17 Pro models' telephoto camera might not allow for a camera bar like the Pixel, though Google seems to have managed with whatever camera hardware they're using.

I’m speaking out of ignorance. But wasn’t the only titanium part of the 15&16 pro phones, the band? And the insides were reinforced with aluminum? And the rest was glass? If indeed, it was just the band then it really isn’t a significant downgrade.
