I wonder if there’s a difference in component sources between the ones experiencing the issue, and the ones not experiencing it.

I saw in another thread a theory that it’s happening due to lack of a type of coating on the aluminum, but I don’t know if that’s true or not. If only some units experience the issue, I wonder if it’s an issue with the speakers themselves.
Its not coating, but shielding. Apple tends to save and cut corners nowadays.

Macbook Pro/iPad: QC non existent, all screens come with micro scratches and dents.

Macbook Pro: Shrunken the heatsink with 50% since M2 causing machines to run hot after every new gen.

Airpods: Vietnam manufacturing scratches, dents and looses products overall.

iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max owners are having trouble with the speakers of their devices, and have complained about a static or hissing noise that occurs when the iPhone is charging.

There are multiple discussions about the issue on Reddit, the MacRumors forums, and Apple's Support Community, where affected users say there is a noticeable static noise "like an old radio." Some people report hearing it when playing audio and turning the volume down, while others say the static is audible without anything playing from the speakers. In some cases, there is a low crackle or a hiss when scrolling through webpages when the iPhone is charging, and some people hear the noise at low volumes even when the iPhone isn't on a charger.

Affected users report that the noise can be heard with chargers of all types, including Apple's official chargers. MagSafe charging causes the problem as well, but users report that the static noise is quieter. Unplugging the iPhone from the charger eliminates the sound for users who are experiencing the static noise when charging.

Some iPhone 17 Pro users have exchanged their devices for new ones, but have run into the same issue.

One Reddit user has been in contact with Apple support, and says the issue has been forwarded to Apple engineers. Apple is apparently working on a fix, but the iOS updates that have been released so far do not appear to solve the problem. The sound is subtle according to most reports, so it may be a widespread issue that only those sensitive to the noise have noticed.

So I tried 2 situations:
- When playing audio from YouTube or Apple Music its not there. (Plugged in charging)
- When I turn off audio and plug in the charger there is indeed a faint hiss coming from the bottom speaker..

Mine is a Silver 512GB 17 Pro Max. Battery manufacturer date is August 2025:

Never had this issue. Wondering if some random on Reddit posted about this and MacRumors felt "Eh, we don't have much else to report so......"

I usually experience the supposedly rare Apple product problems but happy to say I haven't noticed any noise from my 17 pro max (purchased in November, so not the earliest batch).

Never experienced this. Launch day 17 Pro.

And i've charged in several countries using different cables and adapters since launch.

That sound is when charging and scrolling is 100% a power issue almost definitely a hardware problem. My MacBook has this exact same issue. It is a power transformer issue

Finally. Justice!

Every. Unit. Has. It.

The noise levels depending on the charging state, charging level, at the moment workload and whether it is wireless or wired.

We have ordered 20 units and all had it. It is emitted from the bottom speaker.

People who say they do not have it, might be in optimal circumstances or have bad hearing.

Because most media do not dare to call out Apple for this. Apple has been responding to complaints with 'its normal'.

None of the previous iPhones made these noises, not the competition.

Apple promotes this device as a pro video recording device. However if you connect the camera to a powerbank and start filming, the white noises is recorded within videos. Making all videos USELESS.

Even CNET noticed: https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/so...might-have-a-speaker-issue-and-weve-heard-it/

@MacRumors now write about the micro scratches and dents that come with ALL Macbook Pro units.
Where are you located? I’ve never experienced this, and I wonder if some thing like power frequency or something similar could be to blame. Or frequency bands used in radios in different geographical regions.

It’s good to be an iPhone Air user.
