Yep, the guy in the video is literally having to use a microphone right up against the phone to pick it up.
I think tolerance for the noise will heavily depend on how well people hear. There may also be differences between units for how severe the noise is. I am someone who is sensitive to noises like this. In the past I have been very much bothered by coil whine my partner could not hear at all.

Regardless, I don't think it is acceptable for a $1600 CAD phone, let alone an iPhone, to possibly have bad electrical shielding.

Agreed, Apple QC has been rather questionable lately.
Hopefully an update does fix it.

Tested it at home in near-silence.

Whether I have music playing or not, the sound is there when I have a corded charger plugged into my 17 Pro. Only in the bottom speaker.

Now that said…if I hadn’t seen this article, I’d never have KNOWN it. It is the softest noise, I had to have it right against my ear to hear, and it is a noise I will never realistically hear unless I’m in a noise isolation booth with just me and my charging phone. This issue bothers me zero percent.

That also said…this shouldn’t be happening at all and I hope Apple can pump out a fix beyond replacing headsets. I remember well the whole iPhone 12 mini not working properly with screen protectors at launch, fixed by a software update a couple of days later. Actually got a full refund from Best Buy on a screen protector due to that issue back then…

We have bought over 20 units, one louder than the other. But loads of factors come into play to emit it quite loud. Thats when the battery percentage hit 80%-100% and what task you are performing at that moment.

What is most concerning is, Apple promoted this as a multi cam pro camera, but if you use this as a pro camera you bound to plug this into a power source. The speakers emits the static noise and the microphone picks it up in the recording making the footage useless.

Do not forget: None of previous iPhones or competition with Ultra charging make these concerning noises.

Huh, haven’t had this issue either. Hopefully it’s just a minor shielding issue that isn’t wide spread and that the affected users can just get a replacement.

Thankfully I’m just a filthy casual who only went to the Pro instead of the base 17 this time around because my trade-in provided more credit than a base 17 was worth.

So I’m definitely not going to be recording video or even taking pictures while plugged in. But I definitely see the issue for those who WILL be doing such things.

Finally. Justice!

Every. Unit. Has. It.

The noise levels depending on the charging state, charging level, at the moment workload and whether it is wireless or wired.

We have ordered 20 units and all had it. It is emitted from the bottom speaker.

People who say they do not have it, might be in optimal circumstances or have bad hearing.

Because most media do not dare to call out Apple for this. Apple has been responding to complaints with 'its normal'.

None of the previous iPhones made these noises, not the competition.

Apple promotes this device as a pro video recording device. However if you connect the camera to a powerbank and start filming, the white noises is recorded within videos. Making all videos USELESS.

Even CNET noticed: https://www.cnet.com/tech/mobile/so...might-have-a-speaker-issue-and-weve-heard-it/

@MacRumors now write about the micro scratches and dents that come with ALL Macbook Pro units.
I literally just tested my iPhone 17 Pro and I don’t have the issue, so hardly “every” iPhone 17 Pro [Max] has the issues. I’m also super sensitive to that type of static noise, so if it existed on my phone I’d hear it.

Mines plugged in charging all night long playing music, never heard of this issue. Cheap 3rd party cables is my guess.

I have this problem too - 17 pro max.
There are few steps you need to take before you can hear it:

- Have the phone charged above 80%
- Use wired charger (I use official apple)
- Play music (via apple music for example) then pause the music
- Put the bottom speaker (it's now on left side) close to your ear
- You will hear it

Compared with multiple 17 pro and max around me that colleagues own and everyone got it.
It does not happen when charging wirelessly in my case, only wired and above 80%

My 17ProMAX is experiencing the same issue. The noise level seems to be proportional to the SoC load. for example, when running high load apps it produces a louder, unpleasant sound.
No noise can be heard when the SoC isn't performing any processing.

I have the same issue with Apple Watch series 11 46 mm aluminum. If I unplug and plug the MagSafe the problem is solved, but I need to pay attention not moving the charger or the noise start again.

I’ve had this problem with the 17 PM I bought on launch. When charging with USB and scrolling on a page there was « loud » static noise, loud relative to absolute silence it’s clearly audible.
I changed it and the new one have exactly the same problem.

My 17 Pro at 42% charge has the issue charging corded. Sooo….

Watched the video, didn’t hear static, but I thought it sounded like “Laurel”. Listened again, and it sounds more like “Yanny”.

I’d think a multi cam setup is more likely to have external storage connected than power. That’s what I’d do if I had the need for it, with a backup phone to swap in when the one I’m using dies.
