Would you wear an orange suit to a job interview, a wedding or in a courtroom?
I'd have no problems in carrying an orange phone in any of these situations. This is what we were talking about. (besides, during a job interview and in a courtroom I'd put it aside and on mute, but I would do it regardless of the color).
Nah. There are plenty of positives to orange, it's fun and quirky, it's pretty unique, it stands out, but let's stop pretending it's "professional" in any way.
Nobody is pretending anything, a color cannot be professional. Professional is not an adjective applicable to a color.
All the silly orange suits you can find on the Web don't make your point.
If carrying an orange phone makes you feel ashamed or diminished in your professionalism perhaps you are too much conditioned by others' opinion. Worse, if you doubt the professionalism of a person with an orange phone, you have a very distorted idea of what professionalism means.

I probably would not have upgraded to the 14 Pro I have now if not for the deep purple color. I still love that color, but I always use a case, and the purple color does somewhat limit case choices, IMO. So I planned to get a neutral color when upgrading to a 17 Pro, and was hoping for something like a space gray, or natural titanium. Orange is obviously not neutral (and not a color I particularly care for). I debated between the blue and silver, ended up picking the silver - it has been quite a long time since I’ve had a light/white phone. I have a purple TW case coming, but I’m also looking for a slim leather cases, not sure what color but any color should be fine. This is the first time I haven’t wanted a clear case to show off the phone - I don’t find the white rectangle on the back attractive.

I’m the same as you - got the 14 Pro literally as the 15s were announced as I wanted the Deep Purple. The rest of the specs don’t really bother me. I have had the 14 Pro for 2 years now, paid it off last month. My battery is quite degraded and I fancy a change so I’ve preordered the 17 Pro in Deep Blue. I use my phones naked, no case other than a soft material pouch when I go out, so the colour is important to me. This year’s Pros are disappointing colour-wise, orange is too bright for me, I’ve always disliked the silver variant, so that left Deep Blue. Not my favourite blue (the Sierra Blue 13 Pro was probably best) but it’s the least offensive to me. 😋

Perhaps you're right. I like the orange colour, I'm just conditioned from working in corporate environments to see it as a colour that isn't traditionally associated with formal business - everybody's businesswear/suits are black/navy/grey or some other muted colour.

I wish it wasn't something I considered when choosing a phone colour. Naturally, I went for Deep Blue even if I was tempted by the orange.

That orange is fvcking awesome. If I were upgrading, I'd be getting the orange Pro, easily the most appealing iPhone to me out of the 17 line-up, just because of the color.
I generally very much dislike the aesthetic of the 17 Pro (even though I'm aware I just need to get used to the new direction Apple is moving the Pro line-up in), but I'd STILL get the orange Pro.

The best thing Apple did with the 17 line is introduce ProMotion to every iPhone in the year of our Lord 2025, and the second best thing was making this orange Pro, damn.

One doesn't have to be a genius to expect a JETBLACK ( LIKE THE IPHONE7) to be released in 6 months. That is my prediction and I want the credits once it happens.
Oh heck we will give you credits right now. ;) Irrespective of whatever Apple does about colors 6 months from now.

I would think it depends on how people buy the existing colors (which Apple will do thorough market research on). E.g. I would prefer black, but I upgrade my iPhones mostly based on camera competence, not based on color. So I will test the new iPhone Pros in-store and buy one if the cameras prove sufficiently competent as is likely. I will choose the least offensive color to me 9/25; I would not wait 6 months for black even if I knew it was coming.

My guess is that [unlike with the non-Pro models] most iPhone Pro upgraders are not heavily influenced to buy or not buy based on the color choices.

I am tempted to so do, as well. I work from home, and tend to be a homebody in general. So, I’m not toting my phone around much. I did buy a silicone case in terra cotta as well an orange crossbody strap. Most of my clothes don’t have pockets, and I don’t like carrying a pocketbook when shopping if I don’t have to. I usually just attach a MagSafe wallet to the phone and carry that around. It will be nice to not have to actually hold the phone/wallet in my hand, though.

Anyway, I’m thinking of just putting the case/strap on when I go out, but enjoying the phone without it while I’m at home. I’m also considering going without a screen protector for the first time. My concern there wouldn’t be screen cracking, but scratching. It sounds like modern screens don’t scratch easily, though, so maybe I don’t need one.
Screens have been really hard to scrtach for years.

Your social commentary is interesting, but as regards color in the world of professionals you are wrong. Any situation where a bright colored phone may prove distracting to the professional work at hand would rightfully be perceived as being unprofessional. E.g.:
• A photog that shows up at a formal wedding with a bright orange Nikon would rightfully be perceived as being unprofessional, because the photo tool in the room should not distract from the wedding itself.
• A graphic designer with a bright orange phone next to the keyboard will be distorting color perception of WIP which would rightfully be perceived as being unprofessional.
• An expert witness at a deposition [no, cell phones are not excluded from such venues] that pulls out a bright orange phone will likely be perceived as being less professional.

There are many such instances in the real world. Your social commentary (that I agree with) does not change those perceptions. Also note that claims like no phone at a job interview or whatever are specious, because today we use the phone computers in our pockets constantly for all kinds of things, including during job interviews.

I really wish that show didn’t exist 🤦🏻‍♂️

No, orange is not the new black.

Apple design team are just morons and figured they’d give their customers an annoyance that they’ll “correct” next year (for more $$$ via upgrade) 🙄

Ridiculous that both the Air and base 17 have a professional color option while the pros don’t 👎🏻

Not everyone uses a case, and not everyone wants to stare at some flashy / ugly phone color the next 1-4 years until they upgrade.
I usually get what amounts to white, but this year I chose orange for a Pro Max. I like orange. I also loved the show, particularly the first few seasons. White is neutral, nothing flashy about it.

I like orange quite a bit, so am perfectly happy to see it as an offering this year. I get that some people don’t like it, but some of the disapproving reactions have been so visceral. I knew it could be a bit of a polarizing color, but I didn’t realize just how much.

The silver and blue both seem very attractive, but tame, for those who don't want something on the bold side.

I suppose Apple is never going to please everyone with their color options. I’ve seen comments in the past where people lament that boring colors are taking up space in the lineup. Or that the Pro models never have interesting colors. 🤷‍♀️

I ordered the orange Pro because of how bright it is. Finally a pro colour that pops. I'm upgrading from my Blue 13 Pro.

All this talk of 'professionalism' regarding a phone colour has me scratching my head. Nobody cares about your phone colour.

Is anyone else stuck between choosing Cosmic Orange and Deep Blue?
I’ve never had this much trouble picking a color when buying an iPhone before, but this time it feels so hard to decide between the two…
The deep blue will always come back in variations of hues, but the Cosmic Orange is a one off (at least I feel this way).
Go for the adventurous orange. Life is dull, have fun with a bold color!

I can't imagine Apple releasing a black variant/space black 6 months into release knowing the next iPhone Pro model is only 6 months away.

I really hope tho the next Pro re-introduces space black back as this was definitely a miss this year considering MBP/ultra products are still offered in this color unless.

This is the first year I'm going to the store to see what they all look like before I order. I'll probably get the blue but I'm not that fussed on any of them, a rather strange selection of colors this year. Also would have loved a deep red or green

Yeah hopefully Apple brings back the Space Black for the Pro’s next year. This year Apple put Space Black only on the New Air Model so it’s obvious they want people to buy the iPhone Air. All the good colors are only on the new Air Model.

By going to the Apple 🍎 Store and getting a feel for the new iPhone you may change your mind and get the new iPhone Air in Space Black instead. I heard it’s extremely lightweight. I will also go to the Apple 🍎 Store to check it out and make a informed decision. 📱
