I grudgingly understand titanium may be impacted by supply chain problems. Although supply chains are one of those things you can throw money at and they get fixed.

BUT Aluminum?!?!

Going backwards from titanium to stainless steel might be an unfortunate necessity. But aluminum is just cheap junk! The $2 per iPhone Apple saves will not result in a $200 savings in retail price. Yet a $2 increase absolutely would result in a $200 bump in retail.

I guess operating on a 500% markup is a great gig. If you can get it.

I don’t expect to buy a 17 at this point. I’ll probably just keep my 15 for at least another cycle. It does more than everything I need.

Everything here sounds promising, but I’m genuinely concerned that Apple might finally remove the SIM card slot from iPhones in the UK and European markets. While my main mobile provider already uses an eSIM on my current iPhone, I still rely on the physical SIM slot when travelling. The issue is that in many countries, prepaid SIM cards are still primarily available in the traditional physical format. eSIM options often come with contracts, which defeats the purpose for short-term travel. Unless prepaid eSIMs become more widely accessible and truly hassle-free, this could be a real inconvenience for frequent travellers like myself.

I upgraded from the 13 Pro to the 16 Pro this year, but I only upgraded because my daughter needed a new phone and due to the new house a new phone wasn’t in the budget, otherwise there wasn’t anything about the 16 Pro to make it a must have upgrade.
Maybe the 'C' port...

Although I'm a heavy user of the camera on my iPhone 16 Pro Max, it's quite good therefore I have no interest in "camera improvements".

Aluminum is a cash grab money saver for Apple, no thanks, I greatly prefer the Titanium I have now. A new shape camera bump or different colors also lack appeal. Nor are any of the other "improvements" compelling. We get this pitch every year.

This is not a criticism of Apple, I have many of their products. Instead this presents an opportunity to pass, keep enjoying my current model and see what they do for the 18 model.

No Titanium, no iPhone, I shall keep my iPhone 15 Pro Max as long as it lasts and move to something else. I do not want iPhone 4-5-6 era anymore! Enough of bendable aluminium!

The iPhone 4 was steel and glass, not aluminum. It's also my favourite iPhone design of all time.

They likely will

They removed it with iPad mini 7

I think the projected camera bump is horrible. I’m excited about the aluminum, because of the weight.

As for internals, I think the little bumps each year aren’t super noticeable unless you’re upgrading a bit older phone.

As somebody who shoots 4K video by default (my playback screen of choice is a 75" 4K TV), I can't imagine Apple releasing 8K video without bumping up the drive capacity to 2TB minimum. I have a 1TB 15 Pro Max with 250GB of free space, and every time I activate the video camera, I receive an error message that I have to free resources before I can shoot video, and after that the maximum video availability is less than 5 minutes. This is a suboptimal user experience, not something that should be default behavior for a high-end model. First-world problems, I know, but it's frustrating when my camera shuts down during a moment I really wanted to capture.

Current models can output to external SSD. That’s what the pros do.

I have repeatedly told you that I don’t want to increase the camera bump, which is a failed design, nor do I want to go back to aluminum.
It looks like Tim Cook didn’t listen to you…

Of course these are just rumors so we won’t know for sure till he announces it.

I think upgrading my 7 year old IPhone XR to the 17 Pro Max or 17 Air will be worth it.
Should Defoe see a significant boost in performance

They most likely aren't going to be bringing back the smaller phones. Mind if I ask why you can't go with a 6.3" or 6.1" iPhone? They really aren't that much bigger, especially with the much smaller screen bezel of the 16 Pro.
You may ask. It’s form factor and single hand usability. When I went to an iPhone XR from 6 I hated it. I couldn’t wait to get away from that phone. So I left the XR and downgraded to the 1st gen iPhone SE and loved it.
as soon as the mini 13 was released. I upgraded to that I’ve loved the mini and it’s been perfect. But now it doesn’t hold a charge well and for some reason the latest software causes all kinds of crashes. Often too.
I use to never experience iPhone crashing especially not their own apps like messages or photos or camera or email or maps or notes! All these apps have crashes or frozen or restarted my phone regardless of battery level. And my battery isn’t even considered worthy of replacing yet according to Apple.

So I’m moving to Moto Razr Plus 2025. It’s been fun but Apple has lost my respect and trust.

While it’s nice to look at, it’s hard to imagine a use case. After years of experience upgrading annually, the slim iPhone simply doesn’t appeal. Currently enjoying my iPhone 16 Pro Max, there’s little reason to move away from its exceptional performance and comprehensive feature set.

My so-called "use case" as a photographer who has made a ton of photos with iPhones over the years (mostly of people and things/infrastructure/beaches in San Francisco), is being able to quickly pull my phone out of the pocket of shirts I like to wear on a moment's notice with one hand. And being able to quickly put it back into my pocket (with one hand). My silicone cased 16PM, while a very nice phone, makes it a frustrating chore.

I'm looking forward to trying out a cased 17 Air at my local Apple Store. I'll purchase one if it meets my requirements. I suspect it will work out just fine.

Why didn't you get the XS or 11 Pro instead? Both were smaller and smarter than XR.

People will think it's a great upgrade when one of the Apple reps in the presentation pronounces it aloo-MINI-um.

Doesn't it seem a bit problematic that a phone marketed as "Pro" needs to have a work-around for professionals to be able to use it?
No, of course not. This is normal. Pro video often creates enormous video sizes. In fact, Apple won't even allow 4K 60 fps ProRes on internal storage at all. You must use external storage for that.

ProRes support for 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB storage capacity:
1080p HD at 60 frames per second (fps), 30 fps, and 25 fps
4K at 30 fps, 25 fps, and 24 fps
4K at 60 fps, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro models only, when using an external storage device that supports speeds of at least 220MB per second and maximum power draw of 4.5W
4K at 120 fps, iPhone 16 Pro models only, when using an external storage device that supports speeds of at least 440MB per second and maximum power draw of 4.5W

ProRes support for 128 GB storage capacity:
1080p HD at 30 fps and 25 fps
4K at 60 fps, iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro models only, when using an external storage device that supports speeds of at least 220MB per second and maximum power draw of 4.5W
