Aluminum sounds like a downgrade. I miss the shiny look on 14 Pro or earlier, which looks premium and pro. I think they are capable of making shiny Titanium cases on the 17 Pro just like they did on the Apple Watch Series 10.

What’s the benefit of Aluminum, anyway? Cheaper? Lighter weight (even lighter than Titanium)? Colors?

Sorry, MacRumours. That camera bump is a flaw, not a feature. It's a major reason I just plonked for a 16 Pro.
You went with a 16 Pro based on a...rumour? We don't even actually know what the device will look like; we don't even know if that camera bump will actually be happening.

I wish they’d make an iPhone mini 17 or iPhone flip. My mini 13 is on its last legs with crashing and battery life depleted. I might leave and go to Motorola Razr Plus 2025 (60 Ultra) this year since I doubt they’ll make a flip or a mini for another couple years.
They most likely aren't going to be bringing back the smaller phones. Mind if I ask why you can't go with a 6.3" or 6.1" iPhone? They really aren't that much bigger, especially with the much smaller screen bezel of the 16 Pro.

You said “the new house” like you think everyone reading your comment follows your life. Get over yourself.
No, I said new house, so that there was context as to why my daughter couldn't afford a new iPhone and I hat to give up my iPhone 13 Pro.

Food shots may be your thing. But as a serious photographer, I’ve been shooting projects based in San Francisco with iPhones starting way back with the iPhone 6 plus, and have accumulated around 28K images, in multiple genres. They’re excellent cameras.
As the saying goes, the best camera is the camera you have with you... The iPhones are fairly good, although in some aspects they aren't as versatile as a DSLR with multiple lenses, but they are good enough for a wide range of uses, especially if you don't have another camera with you.

I have a Sony Alpha, but I have had it out of the bag only a couple of times in the last 18 months, I need to recharge the batteries again, as they have gone flat in the bag... On the other hand, I've taken hundreds of photos of the grand kids, nature and our town with the iPhone in that time and they are all of excellent quality.

Yes, about 2/3 of our users are on SEs or minis and complaining about the lack of upgrade possibilities.

Excited to see the camera improvements on the Pro Max. With a 48MP telephoto lens, the Pro Max can take 10x optical zoom like images. Upgrade to the front facing camera will also be good. Also if dual recording is possible, it will be great.

Nothing big, usual evolutionary upgrades like processor, memory, camera etc...and downgrade from Titanium to Aluminium hence the overall effect cancels out in terms of value! Waiting for iPhone 19 Pro Max!

I like the idea of the camera bump stretching the width of the phone, but that monstrosity is too much for my tastes. Hopefully they will have moved on to another design by the time I'm ready to upgrade.

IP16 Pro was bad, but 17 Pro looks promising, 12GB RAM is an upgrade in comparison to 8GB earlier, and that alone might be noticeable. Maybe it wil be the time for an upgrade, but I will wait for 2027 and the anniversary event to decide.

Hmmmm......I'm tempted to hang on to my 15PM for another year (and this is coming from someone who used to upgrade yearly (full up front cost) up until the 15.

My 15 Pro Max will do very nicely for at least two more years thanks. I consider this rumoured 17 a downgrade in several respects and I’m not exactly pushing the chip to its limits.

Switching to aluminum could be considered one of the value increases, in practical terms, since it's significantly lighter than titanium or steel, and conducts heat much better too, thus it's better at radiating heat away from the hot components inside, reducing the chances of throttling. The only downside to aluminum in this instance is its greater susceptibility to scratches and dents, but about 80% of iPhone owners put them into cases, so for them this is a mostly moot issue.

Only temporarily, according to Lutnick.
But why would it be temporary? Nothing is going to change, likely for years, to enable any reversal of this exemption. He’s clearly working out that Xi is not budging and his tariffs will only make things too expensive for American consumers. What a muppet! Most people could have told him this before he started these humiliating climb-downs (and probably did).

Don't feel too bad. I doubt they've improved the multitasking in software. So even with 12 GB of RAM your apps and tabs will still reload every time you switch.
The 17 pro iPhones won’t get 12gb this year as they will hold that back for next year
When they keep the same design
