I upgraded from the 13 Pro to the 16 Pro this year, but I only upgraded because my daughter needed a new phone and due to the new house a new phone wasn’t in the budget, otherwise there wasn’t anything about the 16 Pro to make it a must have upgrade.

Pshaw, as if!

Yo, you now have access to spatial vids pics and betta zoom and betta steady cam and wild dope mics.

16 pro /pro max the truth

Oh and funky Dynamic Island music movements. Enjoy that cribbo, a salud.

And of course! Apple intelligence : )

You guys forgot one bullet point;
  • Extra Tax: Rumours suggest that the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro models will be significantly more expensive than their predecessors, with a price increase of approximately 145%.

Any words on Carbon-Silicone batteries? Hahaha just kidding, Apple will introduce them in 2037-ish 🤣

Is this the right way to think about it? It doesn’t seem to align with what I’ve observed as a user - eg fewer tabs seems to trigger reloading less frequently.

Maybe my devices aren't new enough. But throughout the entire history of the iPhone, no matter how much RAM they've had, I've always had everything hard reload after switching to just about any other app.

Just like battery life, Apple seems to have settled on a certain relative RAM ceiling and just won't give them enough. Either that or it's the lack of true page file support on iOS.

Exactly zero of these features are compelling.

Increased battery life could have been compelling if it were next-generational, but in this case it’ll be 7% or so better.

Not interested, no one should be

You might be right because for years Apple have cheapened out on the amount of ram
I personally can’t see the 17 pro’s getting 12gb and just this year sticking with the
8gb
Because when you factor in the new design they have got to hold something back for next year’s iPhones

AFAIK, iOS has hard limits on the maximum amount of RAM that each app can take up. However, this limit is periodically increased, but this is based on the iOS version. So even if you have say 8 GB RAM in a current iPhone Pro instead of 4 GB RAM in an older iPhone, you may be limited by your current iOS version. To get more benefit from RAM you need to upgrade the iOS version, but that increased RAM allowance may not arrive until say iOS 19.

This may not necessarily decrease app relaunches due to app switching though if you multitask a lot. We will have to see.

I think the RAM upgrade is very likely for the iPhone Pro, and is pretty much a lock for the iPad Pro.

Reducing the size of the bump next year will be a feature. I've never missed an upgrade since iPhone 1 until last year and quite likely also this year if this is the sum total of upgrades.

There is no way that Apple will put all these rumored changes into the iPhone 17 pro
Because come the following year
They will need something like
More ram or 8k for next year

8K probably needs more RAM.
I generally believe that
Apple will hold back the 12gb
8K video for next year
Because if they do all that is being reported then there will be nothing much for the following year

Nah. There are other rumoured features like under-screen Face ID, or at least much smaller Dynamic Island, variable aperture camera, improved camera sensor, C2 modem, foldable iPhone (although some predict 2027 for the latter).

I wouldn’t say I multitask a lot. Especially the last many years I try to use a computer for most things anyway. I’ve just been trained that if something important and potentially ephemeral is on the screen, don’t even go back to the Home Screen, much less switch to another app.

Maybe it’s not as bad anymore but I rarely test it. I know on my Mac that if I leave something on it that’s not obviously temporary, it will be there when I get back.

every year a story comes out about the next iPhone saying it will get this & it will get that
Then September comes & it’s missing have the stuff it was apparently getting
So no I don’t believe it based on history & the slight improvements every year

Thing is though, the updated cameras are expected. Maybe not 8K, but 12 GB and updated cameras make perfect sense in terms of the iPhone update timeline.

However, if it does get 8K, it will probably be a limited version of 8K. Full 8Kp60 won't come with the first iteration of 8K in an iPhone. That's the feature rationing.

So basically iPhone 12sssss with or without Apple Intelligence (we'll have to wait and see)

While it’s nice to look at, it’s hard to imagine a use case. After years of experience upgrading annually, the slim iPhone simply doesn’t appeal. Currently enjoying my iPhone 16 Pro Max, there’s little reason to move away from its exceptional performance and comprehensive feature set.

While the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are not expected to launch until September, there are already plenty of rumors about the devices.

If they put 16gb ram on the 1tb pro max, I might consider finally switching back to iphone. Apple had been behind the competition for over a decade now
