I shoot a LOT with my iPhone, have followed courses as well, and I always find some ways to make my pictures look astounding, but I'll have to disagree about the "nothing" part.
- The Front Camera is bad, unless you have LOTS of light. I always end up using the Rear Camera and it's hard to make a good composition when taking selfies. But it has been there since 2018 - it was great back end but it's time for an upgrade.
- The Telephoto lens has room for improvement. I'm glad they'll address this in the 17 Pro.
- Portrait mode - I always need to step further away from the subject and then crop my photo - no matter what lens I use. I can take the shots I want, but then I have to cut megapixels. I don't know why this happens because I have a LiDAR which should be able to detect objects in the scene.
- Video (a bit off-topic I know): There should be a way to control the software Image Stabilization after shooting. We currently need 3rd-party apps or FCPX to do this.
The main camera lens + ultra wide lens are gorgeous. I have nothing to say against those.
The Camera app is solid - I don't see the need to use 3rd-party software.
The new 4K Slow-Mo is absolutely awesome.
Something else :
- Telephoto : They won't address the zoom factor though. It will remain at 5X - other phones have 10X. I personally don't care that much - because you have to be on a tripod at 10X and I miss my 3X at times. I can use the main lens and zoom at a 3X equivalent factor - but it's not the same quality. But on "paper", YouTubers make the iPhone look bad because of this.
I'm not saying the iPhone is bad at photography - it's nowhere near DSLR but it's very very good. But let's be honest they didn't do a lot in iPhone 15 Pro and 16 Pro to improve that department. I'm glad they're finally improving stuff in 17 Pro.
