This is RAW.

and taking photos doesn’t require a PhD. I have an example from a month ago where my 15PM blows it away.

Apple engineering is involved, but doesn’t care.

This is just my kitchen, for test purposes. I was going to post the original sized images of the entire zoom range from 0.5X to 40X, but the 48 MP images are too big.

Here are 0.5X, 1X, 2X, 4X, 8X, 16X, 25X, 40X, but the 0.5X, 1X, and 4X have been severely shrunk down to 960x1280, and are just there for reference. Actually the forum resizes all of them at upload, but the 0.5, 1X, and 4X are smaller than the rest since macOS' "Large" JPEG setting is only 960x1280. I think it's about time macOS adds an extra large JPEG setting.

0.5X (resized), 1X (resized)

0.5X Large.jpeg 1X Large.jpeg

2X, 4X (resized)

2X.jpeg 4X Large.jpeg

8X, 16X

8X.jpeg 16X.jpeg

25X, 40X

25X.jpeg 40X.jpeg

EDIT:

Sorry, the first couple of pictures have the olive oil bottle out of focus (as they seemed to have focused on the counter), but really they're there just for reference to illustrate the zoom range of the three lenses anyway.

I'm not as impressed with the 8x zoom photos. All the influencer posts I see online look amazing at 8x, but in real life, they look kinda ok i guess, not as sharp as those I see online.

I think this indoor 8X shot looks reasonably decent, at least in terms of clarity and noise. I am not an influencer. ;)

That’s what I mean. They look ok, kinda decent but nothing like what you see online from photographers on Threads for example.

Some of the ones online use a tripod or gimbal, in perfect lighting, in RAW with manual post processing. Even if they don’t use all that extra stuff, they are often in bright daytime lighting outside.

Similarly, you can shoot professional quality video on an iPhone if you have the right skills, equipment, and software, but most of us just shoot birthday videos, etc. in bad light and with no extra equipment, with the default iPhone HEVC processing.

So true. In good lighting, most phones can be champs. It’s in challenging conditions like low light, overcast skies, night time, high contrast, super bright outdoors etc that brings out the best(or the worst) in a camera 😊

Hello everyone!
I'm torn between upgrading to the 17 Pro / Max series.
Since I've had the 15 Pro Max, I've often found it too bulky and too big when I'm on the go. When I'm surfing the web at home or on the couch, I think the size is just right. What was your experience like switching to the 17 Pro? Do you miss the size of the 15 Pro Max? Or is the jump to the 17 Pro Max not noticeable in terms of feel and size, and are you happy with the screen?
I've read several times that the reception is significantly better. I hardly get any reception in my office (0-1 bars). Do you think that would be better with the 17?

I made the switch from a 14 Pro Max to a 17 Pro for the same reasons you mention above. On the go the 14PM felt like it was always in the way or weighing my pants down. It was paired with a Nomad Rugged case and from the time I took delivery of it always felt like a heavy phone.

Since getting the 17 Pro a few weeks ago I have gone back and forth every day on if I made the right call this year. I miss the bigger display and that's it. I've adjusted to everything else about it pretty quickly. I'm near a charger all day so battery life is never a concern. In all other aspects I appreciate the smaller size and weight of the 17 Pro. It's easier to pocket, use one handed, and I haven't dropped it once. I still have a few weeks to decide through Verizon if I want to exchange and honestly don't know what I'm going to do. Let us know what you decide and why.

hmm reception I don't think you will see any different reception. Have you travel different location get better reception?
Sometime home (plaster wall or brink wall ) , store or warehouse. don't have good reception indoor. I would say pretty same with everyone going thur. unless if you have old iPhone like 8 or earlier that didn't have good reception due tower have been upgrade and elmate some old tower.

I have upgrade 14 PM to 17 PM you will notice screen bigger and brighter. it felt light and fit in my hand well. I have other friends with 15 PM I didn't recommend them upgrade 17 PM not gonna make much different to them but they mention back get heat up not all time. they are fine with it as long is working for them.

if you want upgrade cool with it but I don't think you will notice reception improving for that reason.

Wow, I just upgraded to 17 Pro Max from a 12 Pro Max, and the 120hz refresh, larger and brighter screen are great updates! I am learning about the camera action button. Optical zoom 8x is superb!

I am thinking of ditching the 17 Pro Max. I'm testing the iPhone 17 Pro right now, and so far I like its size, even though I'm coming from the 12 Pro Max.

I am considering the opposite, 16 pro to 17 max lol or a Air ;)
