I find 17 PM camera is inferior to my 15 PM and 16 (minus the range of third camera).

Took 30 side by side photos and low light was terrible; bright sun still had blurry photos vs 15/16.

That sounds like a focussing fault. If it were me, I'd do loads of testing within the 14-day return window and swap it out if it turns out to be a hardware issue.

Same, compared to 14 Pro 😩 Still not 100% sure how much of this is just the algorithm being more aggressive in noise reduction and if there's something wrong with the physical lens setup (misaligment etc)…

once you go pro, there is no coming back. which color did u choose for pro?

Yeap, had a 13 Pro then a 14 Pro Max shortly after for the bigger screen, it is the only camera I have and I am sticking with the Pro. For me it takes excellent photos. I will get a 17 Pro Max next year refurb probably.

i don't know if i'm imagining it but photos taken on my 17 Pro Max look so much better. i know the cameras have been upgraded but i think the photos generally do look better. so i guess i'm just saying i think i can tell the difference lol. i'm not a photographer/expert but everything looks cleaner and more "cinematic".. not a lot of noise, much sharper details, and i suppose less aggressive depth of field/blurring. i'm using the standard style or whatever it's called because i don't really like applying filters or drastically changing colours. i want images to look as realistic as possible.

when zooming in recording video the transition isn't smooth. i mean if i go from say x2 to x4 i can almost see the image "cropping" in real time... or another way to describe it is the camera switching lenses. i'm not good with words. hopefully it's a bug that will get patched.

the only other small thing that bothers me is the light sensor/display brightness. sometimes i go to use my phone and the screen is so dim i need to manually increase the brightness. another thing is that anything below ~20% brightness is really dim. on my15 Pro Max i could have it at like "1%" and the display would be bright enough to look at in a dark room. but no matter what i need to have the brightness up to ~20% before it's bright enough.

Seeing this has made me feel much better about my choice of going with Orange over the silver, I really dislike how white the glass on the back of the silver looks.
I too "really dislike how white the glass on the back of the silver looks." I will never obfuscate the iPhone Pro Max with a case, but I am hoping for a skin to convert the bright white ceramic to gray.

The 17 Pro Max camera will be a huge upgrade for you. Your idea of "17 Pro Max next year refurb" is a great way to go if you can wait.

Apple will be getting a lot of iP17 PMs back from all the folks that think it is fine to buy multiple phones, use them and then send them back without ever having any intention of buying. The question is just when Apple will decide to open up the refurb marketing channel.

I have a different take on the design topic. I always shove my phone in the biggest, most bulky & rugged case I can find due to being a dairy farmer who happens to also be clumsy (guaranteed phones gonna fall in the gutter full of manure within a week) lol. The design doesn’t matter to me as long as the phone doesn’t lose its durability. My hubby gets my 2 yr old phone when I update so a design that can last 4 years is what’s important to us.
I am not a farmer but I also abuse my iPhone Pros with routine drops to dirt, mud and concrete. No case is necessary, just wash the uber-tough iPhone Pro off like you would a case.

I notice no one is really talking about the anti reflective coating, I guess its not too noticeable?
The anti reflective coating did not jump out at me when testing the iP 17PM against the iP 16PM in the Apple Stores - - and I forgot to try to analyze it. Anyway the real test for me will be outdoors in bright sun, and phones are locked down in-store so that testing will need to wait until my own iP 17PM gets delivered in October.

Probably not a big fan. The iPhone Air was made for him and probably presages Apple's intended direction for future Pros if they can figure out how to fit Ultrawide and Telephoto lenses in there. We saw how his direction in the Mac group led to the awful unrepairable butterfly keyboards and laptops with only 1-2 USB-C ports.
I had one of those MacBook Pros with the butterfly keyboards and the overheating; I hated it. The M series is excellent and the form factor is reminiscent of the Power PC/first gen Intel MBPs; I had one as my first Mac back in 07/08 and it was a tank!

I'm thoroughly enjoying the upgrade. I came from an iPhone 15 Pro Max.

  • I really enjoy taking selfies, so the upgrade in quality is noticed and much appreciated.
  • I like the 6.9" screen for X.
  • 1.5-2 day battery is back!
  • Camera Control, main sensor quality, and modes - it feels like a different grade of device.

I’ve ordered - and picked up - my iPhone 17 Pro 512gb in deep blue. Currently have a black Spigen liquid air on it. But I keep thinking about getting the silver…

Apart from it “aging” it the best, also feels like I could easily go for a non-black case and compliment the silver/white body areas… I don’t hate the blue, just wondering if silver is the “better” choice… 😭

Really debating if I should just exchange my blue for the silver!

Upgraded my 12PM to a Cosmic Orange 17PM on launch day and have gathered a few early thoughts.

IMG_3826.jpeg

The color and finish is remarkable. In direct lighting, it is bold and bright, almost like Hermès orange but not quite. In dimmer or indoor light, I see bronze and copper tones come through (pic). On the rear, the Ceramic Shield pane varies on light, too. “Jamba Juice orange” in direct light, and “Good Humor orange creamsicle” indoors or at night.

The display is big and beautiful. Colors and clarity feel improved, despite both being called Super Retina XDR. Plus I finally get ProMotion, AOD, and Dynamic Island. Nice! And a smoother unibody design that’s more comfortable in the hand, all means my cellphone is more of a joy to use than ever.

Vapor Chamber is no joke. It actually keeps the heat well-managed during intense workloads and/or charging. The phone can warm faster than before, but also lets go of heat faster too. Yay for thermal efficiency!

My old 12PM has a little more low-end response with its speaker system than on 17PM. That’s it though. The mid-bass and rest of the range are very noticeably better on the new phone. Music and vocals have pin-drop clarity and strong presence. Instruments are well separated and faithfully reproduced. On 12PM, busier sections of music or certain parts of the audio track in movies can sound muddy. In these moments, the 17PM speaker system remains immersive, clear, and fast on its feet. It delivers surprisingly full and engaging sound for the overall size of the device, even if there isn’t that kick drum “thump” like before.

This 48MP camera system is mind-blowing coming from the 12 megapixel shooter. I need more time with the new sensors but so far, so good. Here’s a quick snap of this nice grocery I went to over the weekend.

Battery life is night and day. Though, this is an unfair comparison because the 12s were known to be battery hogs and my poor 12PM original battery is at 78% health after five years of duty. Regardless, Apple did say that 17PM has the best battery life in an iPhone and I think they hit a home run. Just look at how consistent the power drains with heavy usage. How fast it charges. Nearly 13 hours of SOT (and it could’ve kept going).

I have over a week left in the return window but I think this one’s a keeper.

Just did this myself. Silver goes with a lot more cases.

Returned my 17PM yesterday, didn't notice any difference between 16PM and 17PM, usually I can tell the difference in the battery life alone, screen is the same, bezels same, storage same, processor isn't much snappier where I can tell a difference, camera is slightly better but I don't take many pictures....I'll wait for next year's model.

Weird you even upgraded... like, what did you even upgrade for? What were you expecting?
