I wouldn't be upgrading if it's only for the speed.

I use an iPhone 12 Pro and that thing is just doing fine with regards to speed. I also don't use Siri and it doesn't have Apple Intelligence.

You must also not care about battery life.

Well, like I said, "if it's ONLY for the speed" I wouldn't upgrade.

I do care about the battery life. My 12Pro currently has 80% battery life and it drops quickly. When new, it didn't have great battery life either.

Hmm do I get this or wait for the Air 2 (coming from a 16 Pro Max)? I was originally going to hold out for the Air2, but I admit, I got the itch seeing the 18PM yesterday. Now vs later I suppose.

I didn't see a reason to upgrade but the hmmmm moment is the fact that my 17 Pro is worth $785 in trade in. That means for $414 + tax I get a brand new phone and my value holds higher next year. I'm torn on what to do but may upgrade just due to the math.

If you want to buy yourself a new phone, go for it. But please don’t try to justify it as something imposed to you by math. 😉

So in summary, an extremely minor upgrade.

The "Apple Reference Image" is new. It may (or may not) prove to be very important.

The other thing that may turn out to be big is that the faster processor also comes with better cooling. That will be significant to some people.

It's the same as every update.

iPhone Pro updates are now basically fixed and predictable:

1. a bit faster
2. battery lasts a bit longer
3. camera's a bit better
4. new colors

They used to do different positioning of the camera lenses between versions. They don't even bother with that anymore.

It is a mature product and their upgrade cadence is not a lot different than it has been for years. Tick tock, a new design, a spec improvement. Smart phones quit being exciting years ago. I am trying to determine if the compromises are worth trading my 17 PM and iPad Mini for the Duo or not. I am not sure I am sold on the technical complexity and lesser camera, yet I am tempted and have about a month to ponder. Like someone else said, the trade in value is high enough for my paid off 17 PM that I may decide to move to the 18 PM if I don’t move to the Duo.
