It’s very straightforward to think that the blank space perfectly fits a small OLED screen and it blends in well. Why nobody was commenting that.

IF that turned out to be true, it would be one of the laziest "look I've got the new model" designs ever, and it's horrid.

I’m relatively neutral as far as this possible design goes, but the question that immediately comes to mind is: If you’re going to have one whole side of the phone be a camera bump, and the phone is the only commonly-owned consumer product on the market capable of recording spatial video for one of your other products, why not go all in and move one lens to the other side so you can get some actual 3D separation of the lenses?

I suppose that would negatively impact the ability to smoothly switch between lenses or combine them for composite images, and those tools are used by vastly more people than Spatial Video, but part of me feels like if you’re taking it that far, and they’re committed to the Vision line, you might as well go all-in. Heck, stick a fourth lens on the other side just for spatial video.

If course it does. It's to:
  1. Encourage people to upgrade by giving the new model a unique look that will tell other people at a glance you have the latest and greatest(?) model.
  2. Make sure it's not compatible with existing cases, requiring you to buy a new one.
There are plenty of ways to give a new model a new look. Why this?

I guess it would let Apple pack more sensors in the black part down the line, and let them have iPhone cases from now on be compatible with those sensors. I thought iPhone/Pro was due for a form factor upgrade soon though?

Very ugly, I wish Steve could come back to throw it against the wall and tell them to come back with a proper design (assuming this render is halfway accurate).

I wonder, if that design is correct, if there's some new optics tech in there that require depth that a thin phone can't provide so instead they've placed a 45degree mirror below each camera and the optics are mounted horizontally under that huge bar. Maybe there's some impressive new zoom capabilities coming in the '17.

Do these people actually take a step back and look at these terrible renders before they post them? I doubt Apple would do something this ugly.
I remember when people doubted a rectangular iPhone 4, a slightly taller iPhone 5, a plastic iPhone 5c, two larger iPhone 6 models, the iPhone 7 and 8 having a recycled design and an ever-growing camera tumor since the iPhone 11.

Prosser was “certain” the 14 Pro would look like this btw:

There’s gotta be something missing here if this is really it. They wouldn’t make it bigger for no reason. It’s like the Dynamic Island before anyone knew about the fill, the leaks had it right in terms of hardware but it just two dots and looked odd. The software fill between made it what it is.
If (and a big if) this is real, it’s likely because the individual lenses have gotten so obscenely large, that the current square camera bump on the 6.1” Pro would take up more than 2/3rds of the back glass, and it would make more sense to just take it all the way to the edge for symmetry.
