Man, Apple really does the least they can get away with, don’t they?

Now it’s catching up to them as every year’s product ends up being quickly obsolete. Almost none of their current phones will support iOS 18’s AI features, and even the new phones they’re about to announce will soon suffer a similar fate.

Longevity used to be a feature of Apple devices. Now their customers will see how badly Apple has been screwing them over to save a few pennies.

Apple today is not the Apple of 10 years ago. It’s a tired company well past its peak.

Sad, but true.

Up until Apple Intelligence, Apple’s lack of RAM in their products was a bit frustrating, but now it’s a glaring issue.

Their future roadmap needs to be rewritten to accommodate for the RAM-hungry AI features. If AI had been on their agenda two years ago, we wouldn’t be in this situation where the regular iPhone 15 doesn’t even get Apple Intelligence. This whole chapter has become a big mess.

I’m very curious what the specs of the next base model iPad will be. Will it get 8GB RAM for Apple Intelligence or will they save that for next year and screw over this year’s customers?

Sure, devices with less than 8GB RAM still work, but doesn’t Apple want all future purchases to take advantage of Apple Intelligence, or are these features mostly a marketing-fueled afterthought?

Since I take advantage of carrier deals to subsidize my iPhone purchases every 3 years, if the iPhone 16 doesn't have enough of the good stuff to warrant being stuck with it for 3 years (ie., iPhone 17 will be substantially better), then I'll just spend $100 and get a new battery for my 13PM and live with it for another year. It's still perfectly good and hasn't slowed down at all.

For the first time I'm actually genuinely upset with Apple. Their cost cutting decision to limit my 14PM to 6gb of RAM has made it obsolete already. The pro variants should always have tons of RAM at the ready. It shouldn't even be a question, especially with LLMs.

Going to stick with the 14PM begrudgingly. iPhones are expensive.

Really on the fence this year. When I had my Xs Max, I had it for 3 years because Apple kept releasing barely anything new. I feel the Titanium line will be similar. Very few changes but just enough to create FOMO. Tired of being in the trap of new phone every year, constantly paying money for the iPhone Upgrade Program. Not to mention devices are more costly than actually laptops now. It's just excessive and all for what? A little extra here a little extra there?

Gone are the days where iPhone set the bar and innovated. Now, Apple barely keeps up and only offers bits and pieces. No more innovation. It's just old.

Well no one puts 8 GB RAM in phones anymore except Apple. Everyone has 12/16 GB RAM. Future proofing is a coping mechanism for people who overspend. Just get the latest device for the lowest/discounted price and upgrade 3 years later.

Rather spend 1.5K every 3 years than 3K every 8 Years.
Sorry darling, the fact that Android needs more tha 8GBs to function properly due to the lack of proper optimization is not Apple's business. I owned the S24 ultra which had 12GB I think and it still showed lag sometimes, app reloads or white screens.

Straight up lying doesn't help your cause. Android has multitasking capabilities, iPhone doesn't. Period. Learn what that means before you embarrass yourself

I have an XR, it has problems and needs to be replaced. I really don’t care about AI. I do care about size and I do not want anything larger than 6.1”. I do care about the modem and I don’t want to be a Guinea Pig for the 1st generation Apple modem.

So where does that leave me:

Since I update infrequently (and I HATE lightning cables) - the iPhone 14 or anything older is off the table

6.1” limit - eliminates all max, plus iPhones. Also eliminates the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 16 Pro.

Avoiding 1st generation Apple modem - eliminates iPhone 4SE and iPhone 17 slim

So I’m left with either a base iPhone 15, iPhone 15Pro or a base iPhone 16. I’m leaning to the base iPhone 16

Always good to have more RAM. Looks like the 17 series will be having many improvements.

Here is a scary idea:

Since there appears to major interest in the amount of RAM there is in an iPhone. Perhaps Apple should sell iPhone RAM upgrades in addition to storage upgrades at the time of purchase
Oh God. Wouldn't put it past the bastards.
