I sprung for the 512GB MBA and with 350GB free I kind of wish I would've saved my money. I don't keep all my photos and documents on a device where by I would lose them all if the device dies, is stolen, is lost or say the house burns down. Subscriptions are annoying but cloud storage is pretty cheap and seems like good insurance against losing photos and important documents.
even with iCloud storage photos still eats space. I don't keep anything local on my Mac mini but the 256 is completely full from the OS, the apps, and app data. that's it. all my actual music, movies, photos, documents are on an external SSD. I can't download much new at once cus there's not enough space for it

They should upgrade Mac base storage now too. 512GB at minimum. I’ve had so many issues caused by opting for 256GB. People said it’s enough, it’s not.

Biggest problem is that iCloud doesn’t work properly. Not only does it refuse to vacate files when the computer needs storage (it should just do this when the Mac is low. Should never hear about it) but it has a very strange bug where it resumes to allow some files to remain vacated. It forces the download of huge GarageBand files no matter how many times I have it remove the download. Often seconds after I just removed it

Why do you base your decisions on what other people say is enough for them? Guess you got a life lesson.

I have 100 GB free on my 256 GB MacBook Air. I just don’t use it for things that actually requires much storage, as strange as that may seem to some people. For others, 4TB is not enough. People are different. Not everyone should buy the base model.

And as I have pointed out many times, I can buy Windows PC’s today (albeit obviously at a lower price) with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB SSD. It’s not for me, but I donmy have a problem with products existing that I’m not going to buy.

Jump to 256GB is fantastic while keeping the price same. Good update. But still would have liked to see Dynamic Island. Overall it looks like a good iPhone.
Yes, the biggest problem for me is the lack of Dynamic Island. I have a 14 at work and should be updating this month. I get the choice of a 16 or a 17e (we can take the cheap option, previously the SE, or the previous generation base model), at the moment it is a hard decision, the 17e has a better processor, but otherwise the 16 is the better package.

I have a 16 Pro as a private phone and the 14 feel really old fashioned, because of the notch. If I still had my 13 Pro (I was forced to upgrade, because my daughter's X finally failed in 2024), I probably wouldn't notice it and be perfectly happy having a current generation processor and a notch, but the notch on the 17e automatically makes it feel like it is 4 years old.

I had a 256GB Air M1 at work and, even with a Windows VM running in Parallels, I still had around 100GB free. On my private Mac mini, I had 512GB and was having to push stuff off to an external SSD. When I replaced them last year, I got a 512GB Air and a 1TB MacPro. I still have over 60% free on the Air, but the Pro is about 3/4 full.

Amazon is selling the 16e 128GB for 549€ incl. VAT right now here in Germany. That seems to be a fair deal. The 17e 256GB will start at 699€.

Good news that base storage is finally 256GB and price has remained the same. Hoping this is indicative of 512GB as base for Macs now too (although maybe not the new A series based laptop).
Apple caught Android manufacturers being greedy with the 256GB storage upgrade. They really did not expect that.

I’m considering going from my 13 Pro to this because they are the same dimensions. But I really don’t like the idea of having another phone with a notch for X number of years.
