I will consider buying this phone to replace my beloved iPhone 13 Mini. I am approaching retirement, and I had best replace my phone sooner rather than later, and the less I have to pay for the new phone, the better. I am also considering the increasing price of RAM going forward (Thanks alot AI!!!), as phone prices will probably go up. I am currently on Verizon and have a decent grandfathered plan, that would have to be replaced by a more expensive plan for the same service if I trade my phone through Verizon for a new iPhone 17. If I trade my current phone and buy the 17e outright, I can keep my existing plan with an unlocked phone and can switch from Verizon altogether anytime I want without having to be stuck with an overpriced plan for at least the next two years. The 17e has added MagSafe (leaving it off the 16e was ridiculous) and 256 GB base storage, which is what my 13 Mini is. Finally, I don't mind the notch, and I have no need or desire for 120 hz, and one good camera on the phone is enough for me. I only rarely use the ultra wide angle lens on the 13 Mini.

It is good to see that you are willing to upgrade and part with your 13 Mini. The 17E will be a much better phone in every way for you. As someone who is using the 16E, I heavily encourage you to upgrade!

Biggest new feature: Pink.

Yes, I probaby will take the plunge this spring. But the 13 Mini was the best of the 4 iPhones I have owned, and not just for the size, so I will miss it. It has replaced my previous 10 Xs, which was an overpriced piece of crap, IMO. Its old Intel Modem was horrible and would often not even work reliably in my basement. I had replaced the orginal battery in my 13 Mini a year ago, and it still runs well. However, based on my stage in life and the expected future increase in prices, this is the time to trade in my phone. One more thing to keep in mind - if China actually does invade Taiwan over the next two years, it could make virually all smart phones almost impossible to buy for a period of time, since so many of the high end chips are fabricated on that island.

At a decade when even $100 Android phones have atleast:
- 90 Hz
- Ultra-wide camera as a minimum
- without a notch/ pill in this day & age…this 6 x times costlier model still feels like the worst value phone of the entire year for any human being to spend their money on.
the value proposition is simple: its the cheapest brand new with warranty Iphone (device that runs IOS). Android phones don't come with the apple ecosystem.

I always wonder how much that "ecosystem" matters. I know far-and-wide more people with an iPhone and a Windows computer, than an iPhone and a Mac, my teens don't use iMessage, at all, and prefer Snapchat, I'm the only one I know with an AppleTV, I have never seen a homepod in someone's home. The list goes on.

I guess the watch, but iOS 26 absolutely ruined the workout app, so...

buy one and tell me if it's still usable in 8 years like this iPhone will be

My wife used a Pixel for almost 7 years and it was still working just fine, other than a weak battery. Only reason she upgraded is because Spectrum didn't support it.

I still use my 2018 Huawei P20 Pro as a backup phone. It works perfectly well, even getting the latest Gemini features (largely because its web based but still). Having suffered through an XR in recent years I'd hate to see what horrors the iPhone X would unleash!

Its largely swings and roundabouts at this stage. You can add most of your iCloud data to Android for sync, Airdrop if thats your thing and still drag and drop MP3s if thats your thing. There are obviously lots of little things you might miss (eg Airpod switching) but honestly everything Apple sells that isn't computing hardware is massively overpriced anyway. A £30 set of CMF Buds sounds just as good as some £130 Airpod Pros to my ears.

17e now with 256gb base storage and the price staying the same - that's quite a statement in these times of ai-server craze

But just fine for a corporate phone, which I think it mainly is.

Either way, prepaid carriers will, soon enough, have this on sale for $299 or less, and post-paid will give it away with a new line.

Yeah the old SE models were the ones dished out to all the managers in my old office. I imagine it will be the same with these e models.
