We all know this. This has been mentioned a gazillion times.A19 chips with a defective core that are deactivated for the iPhone 17 can be repurposed for the iPhone 17e. This process, known as chip binning

Sure the 17 has a better screen and cameras, but not everyone cares about those things enough to spend the extra $200.
Yes and the 4,000 Mh battery is a major USP for this phone.Agreed, and also the 17e is the "work truck" version of the iPhone. There's a market for that too.
Mini gang needs to stand together and petition Apple to make one. I say we are off 5% of overall iOS users and respect is in order. If this had come in a less-offensively-oversized version, I might have actually bought one. Offer a 5.0-5.4" display size version, and it would be just about perfect.
Not really, unless you really want Apple Inteligence. I have a 14 Pro and I’m firmly staying put for now.is this worth upgrading to from an iPhone 14PM?
VAT alone is +25%. VAT gets you to about US$750 (+US$150) on the base model iPhone 17e. (U.S. buyers pay sales tax in most states. The US$599 advertised U.S. list price excludes sales tax.) Then there’s “Reklamationsrätt,” effectively a 3 year limited warranty (2 additional years) that U.S. buyers don’t get — and less reason to purchase AppleCare+. It’s difficult to value that additional consumer protection unique to Sweden, but it’s not zero. And Sweden gets a different iPhone 17e: a variant that supports physical SIM cards. U.S. buyers (and some others) don’t get that feature. How much is physical SIM card compatibility worth? Hard to say again, but it’s not zero.🤷♂️In Sweden it,s crazy ! It.s 930 US Dollar inc Tax /
The 17e thread on Hacker News has turned into an iPhone mini thread as well: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=47218084Mini gang needs to stand together and petition Apple to make one. I say we are off 5% of overall iOS users and respect is in order.
I would be fine with it just recognizing present-generation people.Next-generation portraits
Always have to laugh about Apple marketing in these regards. Just thinking rear every 150€ android phone is capable of this basic background blur.
You joined MR today to fire up the gang? Nice! Let me tell you, we are at least 25% of iOS 18 and older users.Mini gang needs to stand together and petition Apple to make one. I say we are off 5% of overall iOS users and respect is in order.

I love my 14 Pro and it still runs iOS 18 too.Not really, unless you really want Apple Inteligence. I have a 14 Pro and I’m firmly staying put for now.
Its a budget phoneIf there is only one camera, it should be the best one like in iPhone Air.
Then with that huge battery, double storage, new coating, it would be very tempting.
UWB and dynamic island (I like the feel of the screen with it) would be nice but not necessery
Actually, it's the other way around. For the money, the 17e with the same basic and most critical features makes the 17 look like an overpriced poor value. The 17 makes this look quite a poor value i think
How much of the $200 price difference is accounted for by using a 4 instead of a 5 core GPU, I wonder.
- A19 chip limitation: While the A19 chip in the iPhone 17 has a 5-core GPU, the chip has a reduced 4-core GPU in the iPhone 17e.
