For some, all these extras not worth the price increase (in my case, around €300) for the 17.
Yeah. I definitely get it. Heck, the 16e has been on Amazon for just 599€, that’s a 350€ difference in price for the iPhone 17! And that’s not a rational decision…
But those extras, for someone like me who only buys one smartphone every 4, 5 or even more years, are very nice to have.
In fact, I think I’m going to purchase an iPhone 17 this holidays, and see for myself if I adapt to the new size. I’m very used to the 4,7” form factor (first with my old iPhone 8, now with my awesome iPhone SE 2022), and I’m not sure if I could get used to this new big sizes… but maybe I do. Maybe I adapt to it. And then… I’m afraid there will be hard to go back to this 4,7”…
The thing is, I’m not quite sure because I own an 11” iPad Pro which has great portability, and I use it for most of my daily tasks. However, if I had a bigger iPhone, and it wasn’t too uncomfortable to use one handed, then maybe most of those tasks I would do them with the iPhone.
Not gonna lie, I very much enjoy this iPhone SE and how light and comfortable is, but the battery life is not the best even at 100% of Battery Health, and I use it in an area with low 5G coverage and that may influence it as well. And a bigger battery would provide me more time to use it.
On the other hand, and now that I mention cellular data, there’s something we may be missing on the equation: the iPhone 17 still comes with a Qualcomm modem, which is not as efficient as Apple’s C1. And while I don’t know how would it behave in such low coverage area, I’m pretty sure the power consumption would be lower.
So… maybe waiting for a 17e is not a bad idea at all, especially for those not bothered by PWM.
I wish Apple introduces a C2 for the regular iPhone 18 in 2027.
