I've had loads of iPhones over the years. I've yet to scratch the display on any of them.

Life goes on. The Sun will again "rise" in the morning.

Technically Corning figured it out, they’re the ones who manufacture the glass. Samsung just bought it from them, they didn’t have a hand in making it.

Apple insists on having its hand in everything. Ceramic Shield was co-developed between Apple and Corning and they likely want the same level of input and control over the final product instead of just using off the shelf Gorilla Glass Armor or Victus 2 glass.
And possibly Corning will give Apple a better deal next year.

I’m in the same boat. The camera upgrades this year look too tempting to ignore for me. Hopefully, Apple adds this feature in a year or two.

Would have been good if it is there on the 17 Pro models. If not, I still won't be upset. Expecting this to come to the iPhones, at least the Pro models within the next 2 years.

Is no one else alarmed that Apple seem to be increasingly abandoning new products and introducing new technologies due to.. challenges.

im quite sceptical on the subject of truly scratch resistant glass.

Sure, we have Sapphire and there was a time that the iPhone was rumoured to get a sapphire screen... it never happened.

But are we ever going to get a truly scratch-proof screen? Obviously the bottom would drop out of the screen protector market immediately

It always raised an eyebrow with me when they advertised the first iteration of the 'Ceramic Shield' glass screen by showing a phone tumbling around in a handbag knocking into other objects. What rubbish. Even the Ceramic Shield will scratch under such circumstances.

I think people forget that Apple makes iPhones in MASSIVE quantities. If a new part becomes too expensive to make they usually drop the idea for financial reasons (for now). I think we may see that anti-reflective coating on the iPhone 18 models due in 2026.
This! It is always a volume issue.

I thought Apple purchased their displays from Samsung. Why can’t they use the same anti-reflective display that’s in the S25.

This would be great. I’m one of those people that doesn’t use a case, and my screen is always pretty scratched up lol.
same except not only do I not wear a case, I take very good care of the phone and rarely drop it.

I hate looking at my screen in the day time / outside because of all the scratches on the upper half / right side.

phone(s) stay in a pocket, on a table or in a hand most of the time so idk how it gets so scratched.

man this would have been one of my biggest upgrades.

samsung has done anti-reflective screens since the S24 Ultra. Almost 2 years when the iPhone 17 launches.

disappointing that apple couldn't figure it out
I was just going to say the same thing, the S25 Ultra work phone I have has one of the most beautiful displays i've ever seen, AND has the best anti glare of any phone I've used as well......Apple Apple Apple smh.

Goodbye iPhone 17 !
Won’t buy a new iPhone until Apple makes real anti scratch and anti reflection display for all its iPhones

Apple... once a number one hardware wise, now is already 2 years behind Samsung... lol.

They need much brighter screens, antireflective coating, much more sustained brightness during hot/sunny days as well..

They need to make a hydrophobic, electro plated, oleophobic layer that has no dust, no ear bobbles (and takes less than 15 seconds).

The real ones get this reference. :)

It’ll be one of the new features on the 18 Pro models

Speaking of parts shelved, remember there were rumors going around the iPhone 16 was going to replace the volume control buttons with a single haptic engine button? I think Apple dropped that idea when they determined is was too expensive to build with the technology available. I still think it will happen because Apple is evaluating such a control with the Camera Control button on the iPhone 16 models and determine what changes will be needed for the volume control using the single button with haptic feedback.

So a thing that was never announced, that was a rumor from one person, isn't going to happen and that becomes Apple canceled this feature? Just wow.
LOL, yep. Apple FAILED to deliver a feature that was never promised, or confirmed, for a product that has not been announced. LMAO.
