Why all these half measures? We want a full screen iPhone apple

You must be new around here…

Normally I wouldn’t believe this guy, but this actually makes a lot of sense (if he hasn’t just speculated, of course)

Face ID needs to be centred which is why that would be under-display in the centre, whilst the selfie camera is moved to the side to create the illusion of more space. Actually quite a sound concept.

Face ID centered but under the glass and camera to the left. Hmmm illusion of more space. Sounds magical and Apple-ly…I’d like to add that being able to move the dynamic to any corner or side of the screen would also be nice for this new directionzzz

iPhones have always been unique looking on the front. If this rumor is true, it's just going to look like every other smartphone

Easy easy…just wait til you see it, have faith Apple will do this all In good taste unlike those “other” Smartphones.

The Port on the 17 pros and Air are not centred so please get over symmetry with Apple now.

The left hole is fine because it'll be a small island and less annoying, its for one year on the pros until iPhone 20 anyway.

I expect it to come to iPhone 19, fold and Air 3 in 2028 as well while the pro is the only one "all screen" for a while.

From a developer perspective, it changed application lifecycle for certain situations between non-dynamic island devices and iPhones with dynamic island, which breaks logic in many apps in various common situations like in-app Face ID authentication when iOS forces system dynamic island animations.
Fair, I haven't seen any examples of this through my own experiences, but makes sense.

If Pro and Pro Max have different features I'll be very disappointed in Apple. Pro and Pro+ should become the names if they are different in more than size.
Apple has only until recently not been differentiating the normal / plus and normal / max devices.

Off the top of my head:
6 (maybe also 6s) had OIS on the plus only.
7 Plus had a 2x telephoto
13 and 14 (maybe 15) pros had longer telephoto focal lengths on Max size.

I'm also about 75% sure one of the Pro models had sensor shift before the other too.

Honestly they should just put it in a top bezel and leave the screen unobstructed, even if it increases the phone's height by 2-3 mm.

What bugs has it caused? Just curious.
For example, when you lock your phone in landscape mode, say with YouTube, rotate your phone to portrait mode, and unlock it after a while, the "dynamic" island is displayed in portrait mode, and then it rotates to landscape mode with a janky animation, cutting off part of that "island".

I have that a shot on my 17 Pro Max and couldn't seem to reproduce it? Phone in landscape mode with YouTube playing, then locked, rotated portrait, unlocked into YouTube still in landscape but Dynamic Island at top of display as expected.

(Also, the RDR PS5 patch is 10/10, if you don't have it it's well worth it!)

Does that mean looking at the screen the eyes will be off because it’s on the left and not centre
When taking a selfie, you should always look at where the lens is placed. For FaceTime, they’ll probably correct this with Center Stage software.

Because people have publicly called him out on it.

And what about the people who currently work for him? Maybe he’s changed. I see that his production is great and he’s producing great videos. I also see that he was backstabbed stabbed by the guy who was his co host on the Genius Bar podcast and also suppose to be his best friend. Sorry but I support John!!

This would be a loss for usability since the top left corner is the hardest to reach for most people, even with reachability.

Good to know about this. Under screen FaceID on 18 Pro possibly means an all screen iPhone for 20th anniversary is possible. Burgundy color in the video looks great, however don't know what the actual shade/color will be for the final production units.

I think we'll just get a smaller dynamic island vs. left corner cut out. This will aesthetically look "apple" while the M6 MBP's get the pill cutout as well. 20th anniversary I can see either the left corner cut out or under the screen (I don't see how that wouldn't affect camera quality but I assume it'll make it up with computational mumbo jumbo).

Brown color would be a mistake. I don't see that color selling well. Brown cases maybe but they ditched leather. I predict burgundy OR a deep purple, black, and silver.

This will be a nice upgrade from my 14PM. Foldable peaked my interest but I will wait until they refine it down the road.

I am fairly confident that Apple will retain the top-left placement, primarily to differentiate its design from Android devices, which typically feature a centered camera cutout.
They don’t. They gave a variety of placements including off course an off centre one.
