No matter its location (top-left or top-center), no matter its shape (indentation or cutout), no matter its size (big or small), it’s still a notch.

The only way to fix the problem of having a notch is to bring back bezels, which would be the most sensible solution.

A side benefit to bringing back bezels would be being able to go back to modern 90-degree screen corners instead of half-century-old CRT television-style rounded corners.

I wish dynamic island could be disabled in some apps. I don’t need the airplay reminder when discord is open, or the constant location button for waze. Also, the interactions should be swapped (or at least the option). A tap should bring the quick actions down, long press switch to the app.

I don't think it makes a lot of sense to change the location of the Dynamic Island, since too many apps have buttons or controls in the top left corner. Each and every one of those apps would need to relocate those or have inaccessible/invisible buttons or controls. Work for both apple and the entire developer community that can be avoided if the camera cutout remains centered.
Devs/Designers who follow guidelines should be fine, since dynamic island occupies the status bar area. Controls are supposed to be below, unless the app is fullscreen. Here you can see controls are below, as intended:

Edit: Some things can’t be swiped away either, when I have an incoming call and want to use AirPods, the stupid connection banner covers the incoming call buttons, and I miss the call. Let alone how when I’m on my Mac, the AirPods default to connect there instead of my iPhone.

Tyger Tyger burning bright,
In the forests of the night:
What immortal hand or eye,
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Sorry if this has been discussed, but are they planning to eventually hide the camera? I know they have good engineers, but that seems almost impossible at least to me.

Why would those apps need to relocate the controls? That space is currently occupied by the clock. Apple could just as easily swap the space for the clock and Dynamic Island to accommodate this.

Meh my iphone 17 pro max will do me just fine, until the anniversary model kicks in my buying impulse with rumoured all screen display. Also the release of the OLED macbook pro will have my wallet tied up this year.

I have that a shot on my 17 Pro Max and couldn't seem to reproduce it? Phone in landscape mode with YouTube playing, then locked, rotated portrait, unlocked into YouTube still in landscape but Dynamic Island at top of display as expected.

(Also, the RDR PS5 patch is 10/10, if you don't have it it's well worth it!)
This doesn't always happen on my 13 Pro, so maybe I'm missing some steps, but I’ve been having this problem ever since they redesigned the UI for the dynamic island.

P.S.: I have the game and I couldn’t agree more 🙂
