In that scenario is the iPhone Ultra basically a rebranding and evolution of what is currently the iPhone Pro Max i.e. a Pro with a bigger screen plus some other extra features (maybe better cameras) for some further differentiation from the Pro?

Next year the Fold will be the big thing. And then in 2027 probably all new redesign for 20th Anniversary iPhone.

I want the C2 for longer battery life. Variable apertures for the camera lenses would be much appreciated

We can but hope to see the back of the nausea headache inducing, flickering hell of OLED.
We won't be getting 18 next year for sure, that and the 18e will release in spring 27 for a new rotation.

The foldable, two airs stuck together with duel lens and punch hole camera inside with island outside.
2027 iPhone XX is the one to wait for if you have a 15, 16 or 17, I'm expecting punch hole on the pro with no bezels, brighter M14 display and maybe new ssd battery to slim it down.

If they are to change numbered naming they are either gonna refer to them by a silicon name or the year. The same way we have MacBook Pro M4 etc. So either 2027 iPhone Pro or M5/A20 iPhone Pro.
Something like iPhone Pro 2 would be extremely confusing and would make no sense.
To answer OP's question... high density battery, and then there's plenty of room for improvement with materials currently used in 17Pro. I think they are far from maximizing chip performance as well. Unpopular opinion but vapour chamber is overkill and kind of a gimmick in their current setup, it is not being fully utilised.

The killer feature for camera in iPhone 18 Pro would be the new stacked high dynamic range sensor Apple published patents on earlier in the year. But not sure when that will be out, it is the only thing making me doubt getting the iPhone 17 Pro instead of waiting one year for the upgrade.
Yes, please! Maybe not for the Pro line but I would love a plastic iPhone again!!
