It's not that big of a jump from 5088 mAh to 5100/5200. It's barely a change. It's still welcomed nonetheless.
 
How about better battery technology? Where are all these amazing batteries articles were written about years ago that never saw the light of day? Is that the one technology we can never evolve?
I was thinking the exact same thing, and one of techs that looks promising is Solid State Batteries - but again until it's IN a consumer device who knows.
 
Sadly I hear this hype and excitement prior to each phone launch…..and always disappointed on actual results
 
Nvidia’s 2080 Super was called a “game changer” for its 10% performance uplift. This battery is called “next level” for a 1% capacity increase. Tech journalists, please, stop with the hyperbole!

Bigger, thicker device with better battery life……wow! How about a thinner, lighter device with new super advanced “Pro Grade” Silicon Carbide battery tech? You can even act like you came up with it Apple. I am so so bored of a 5 year wait for tech other manufacturers have had for ages.
 
Sure. IMO it is pretty disappointing we haven't had significant phone battery breakthroughs. Yes phones do more than they used to, but I used to be able to get 5-7 days out of my StarTECs! (not actual talk time though)
 
A new battery technology like Motorola and a lot of Chinese phone manufacturers are using, this would be a nice change.
 
I hope the M6 OLED redesign Macbook Pros also have these Silicon Carbon batteries, which go from something like 60wh per liter to 90wh per liter, a big gain that can also be thinner and lighter at the same time.
 
It's already so heavy. I hope they use new battery technology on the Air 2 and I will switch from 17 Pro Max.
I did, absolutely love the size/weight of the phone; however, the camera sucks!

My wife and kids still comment when I hand over my phone, they say its like a fake display model...lol
 
Just reading about the One Plus 15 -- One Plus 15 weighs 20g less than an iPhone 17 Pro Max and has a 7300mAh SC battery in it and can charge at 80W! How is only 5500mAh in a heavier device "next level"?

It’s been 10 years of the same nonsense hype.
Truth in that…

I upgrade my iPhone every 2 years not really interested in new features, but simply to have a well performing phone all the time.
I was hoping to be impressed with the Photo-button on my 16 Pro… but nah.. it’s more annoying than anything else.
For the rest, the 256 GB of storage is a requirement.
 
Don't even need AI to create Tim's post iPhone launch video statement.

completely agree with this.

In this day and age we are still limited with the relatively slow charging with the iPhones. it would be a very "Pro" move to wait your phone to charge half a day. Competition, with the help of SC batteries, are years ahead.
And whilst they would bemoan the theoretical lifespan they could put in ways of making the battery user-replaceable whilst keeping the device IP68 compliant but they (and everybody else) choose not to.
 
So many downsides to that with one tiny upside to a handful of people maybe.
The same handful of people who are apparently on a deserted island all day and nowhere near a charger and need 2 days of battery life where most people are fine with the way it is.

Why not use this tech to make smaller and lighter phones that get ALL DAY battery life? People have been charging their phones daily for a decade. Is getting 2-3 days out of an iPhone really needed in today's world for any use case other than climbing the Swiss Alps?

Use the tech to make sleek new devices that aren't cinderblocks.
